A sheltered social outcast under strict supervision by her religious mother & constant scrutiny by her peers
discovers that there's more to her than meets the eye when the realization of her latent telekinetic abilities coincides with her first period, propelling everyone around her towards a crossroads of unspeakably destructive power.

ETERNALLY. my fav De Palma film that will ever exist. I've had a LONG fucking history w/ this movie of me always fucking seeing this shit on TV & never failing 2 miss the prom sequence EVERY.FUCKING.TIME. Somehow, I would always see practically everything b4 it or just the ending, but the prom massacre evaded me 4 MANY yrs, until I graciously & finally saw it in its entirety somewhere down the line. While the sequence itself is a bit underwhelming by 2day's standards, De Palma still dominates w/ his typically operatically sleazy, yet elegant style that makes his films feel as real as they do unreal (which assists in making the opening shower sequence feel far less exploitative than it would in less accomplished hands) & w/ his artistic flair of popularizing the split screen technique (which, alongside the drastic filters & pops of color, discernibly saves the massacre scene from falling flat on its face). As if I haven't gone on long enough, I'll once again mention my love of Pino Donaggio in heightening the greatness of the film itself, offering up such an understated, but instantly ICONIQUE score that I'd be able 2 recognize basically anywhere due 2 how many times I've seen this & heard it (AHS: Asylum, I'm looking @ u). I could literally go on 4ever how much I love this movie & basically everything about it & y it resonates so heavily w/ me again after a brief period where I thought the 2013 rendition was better (dark times, y'all), but, I'll cut things short & leave it as it is, becuz we need this thread 2 finally exist after all this damn time. :marykay:

I think I've gone off about how much I adore this movie enough by now :thethirstisreal:

But fun fact I now own the poster for it!!

...Actually I own two posters for it since we were randomly sent a second one weeks later for no reason!

Alpha Team is flying over the forest zone situated in north-west Raccoon City, where we are searching for the helicopter of our compatriots, Bravo Team, who disappeared during the middle of their mission.
Bizarre murder cases have recently occurred in Raccoon City. There have been outlandish reports of families being attacked by groups of about ten people.
Victims were apparently eaten.
The Bravo Team was sent in to investigate, but we lost contact.
Bravo Team's helicopter was a derelict. Save for the remaining body of Kevin.
We continued our search for the other members.
And it turned into... a nightmare.

I've guiltily have never seen this but I've always been unsettled by the poster. Like the way Sissy's chest looks when she is covered in blood is just...creepy. The way you can see her ribs like that almost looks alien-like

The 1st time :ohnoyoudidnt: What did u think of it? :selenawelp:

It was mostly in her head from the shock of that happening, altho there were def some ppl (like Norma) who were genuinely laughing that probz caused her 2 imagine the entire gym joining in cuz it reflected what her mother said 2 her @ "they're all gonna laugh @ u," which is y it kept echoing in the scene itself :hagwink:

i loved it! i thought sissy spaceck was amazing, as was piper laurie

yeah that's how i interpreted it too, since immediately after she got the blood poured on her, only a few people were laughing and not the whole gym

i haven't seen the 2013 version, but just by watching this i can tell there isn't a point to a) see or b) have it been made at all

YASSSS THE LOVE :jesustakethewheel:

Come thru cinematic interpretations :pjtrolls:

Ya...2013 was a HUGE point of contention 4 ppl during production/when it came out cuz they were making it out like they were gonna do LOADS of diff shit (like incorporating the town destruction from the novel & modernizing it a bit), but becuz it was produced by Sony, it more or less just ripped off a lot from this while only altering things a tad (the gym teacher retained her OG iconique name @ Desjardins PLAYED BY MISS JUDY GREER :hellyeah: , Chris & Billy r less white trash as they r in this & more genuinely psychotic like they were in the novel aka: the best part about 2013 :getinline: , & instead of being in a trance murdering ppl Carrie full on just rages out on the gym like in the novel which I also appreciate :oop: ) & Chloe was HORRENDOUSLY miscast, something ppl complained a hell of a whole lot about, cuz she just rly doesn't do much 2 convince u that she's this awkward outcast that everybody hates cuz she doesn't fit in (something Sissy perfected), since each adaptation pmuch tried 2 bank on that instead of casting some1 who more accurately reflected Carrie as a charrie (she's fat, she has bad skin w/ acne & pock marks, she has bad stringy hair w/ split ends, she wears frumpy ass Christian clothes, she puts up w/ shit but is self-aware of what every1 does 2 her, she can read ppl's minds & lets that shit slide until the blood dump, she decides she's just gonna end the entire town in 1 fabulous reign of fire, etc.) :chloe:

I HEARD THAT! :indeed:

So true, like, u can't even be like "well, there isn't much 2 the prom" @ most of it being a firehose/electricity/fire cuz De Palma SOLD.THAT.SHIT. w/ the wild ass colors/split screen/way they framed Sissy 2 make her look otherworldly w/ the blood all over her, truly put all these other motherfuckers 2 shame by showing how much u can do w/ just a lil bit :thatspussybabes:

I still can't get over the fact that Piper Laurie performed the way she did cuz she thought it was a comedy :ahhh:
