A sheltered social outcast under strict supervision by her religious mother & constant scrutiny by her peers
discovers that there's more to her than meets the eye when the realization of her latent telekinetic abilities coincides with her first period, propelling everyone around her towards a crossroads of unspeakably destructive power.

ETERNALLY. my fav De Palma film that will ever exist. I've had a LONG fucking history w/ this movie of me always fucking seeing this shit on TV & never failing 2 miss the prom sequence EVERY.FUCKING.TIME. Somehow, I would always see practically everything b4 it or just the ending, but the prom massacre evaded me 4 MANY yrs, until I graciously & finally saw it in its entirety somewhere down the line. While the sequence itself is a bit underwhelming by 2day's standards, De Palma still dominates w/ his typically operatically sleazy, yet elegant style that makes his films feel as real as they do unreal (which assists in making the opening shower sequence feel far less exploitative than it would in less accomplished hands) & w/ his artistic flair of popularizing the split screen technique (which, alongside the drastic filters & pops of color, discernibly saves the massacre scene from falling flat on its face). As if I haven't gone on long enough, I'll once again mention my love of Pino Donaggio in heightening the greatness of the film itself, offering up such an understated, but instantly ICONIQUE score that I'd be able 2 recognize basically anywhere due 2 how many times I've seen this & heard it (AHS: Asylum, I'm looking @ u). I could literally go on 4ever how much I love this movie & basically everything about it & y it resonates so heavily w/ me again after a brief period where I thought the 2013 rendition was better (dark times, y'all), but, I'll cut things short & leave it as it is, becuz we need this thread 2 finally exist after all this damn time. :marykay:

And you are... a zombie bride?
Regarding the prom scene, it's one of those cases where you realize how great a director De Palma was in his prime, that he was able to make that scene so intense with so little. After she shuts the doors, the firehose and the basketball backboard are literally the only weapons Carrie uses, and that's all she needs. While I can definitely admit that the 2013 version of the prom scene was cool with the added spectacle, the 1976 version was actually scary.

Couldn't have said it better myself :pjtrolls:

I still enjoy the 2013 scene, but ya, it doesn't have the music or the lighting or the editing or the terror just looking @ how otherworldly Sissy looks w/ the blood that holds the prom scene in this 2gether so well, it mainly just goes from 0-100 RULL fuckin quick w/ her dishing out direct attacks, which, as much as I appreciated those, were not nearly stylish or layered enough 2 deliver as much :chloe:
