| Witchboard (1986); "Hereditary" clearly took a lot of inspiration from this shit film | |

![]() When Jim (Todd Allen) and Linda (Tawny Kitaen) decide to throw a party, Linda's ex-boyfriend -- and Jim's ex-friend -- Brandon (Stephen Nichols) brings out a Ouija board to contact a pleasant, childish spirit named David with whom he communicates often. Apparently, the lines get crossed, because they instead reach across the supernatural divide to the decidedly less pleasant Malfeitor, who uses his connection to the world of the living to wreak havoc and terrify his new acquaintances. \ I've been doing this thing with my friends where we find random bad movies, 3 per night, and we force ourselves through them and then evaluate them afterwards(something I want to push onto TWH as a weekly event maybe, idk). One of these was actually "Witchboard" which I watched with my friend Tyler right after watching Hereditary coincidentally. This movie at times was completely hard to get through, but there was some honestly funny bits. Let's start with saying that there is absolutely no suspense, even when something is supposed to have it, things just happen. The effects are atrocious, but laughably so especially one that happens in the end. Another thing is that this is very dramatic, often feeling more like a lifetime movie with it's absurd subplots and overacting than something of the horror vernacular. Now getting this out of the way, this honestly feels so much like Hereditary, but crafted terribly. A lot of the scenes in this are redone in Hereditary, where I'm now convinced it must've influenced it. It's not the worst movie, but it's not the best. 1/10 |

And you are... a zombie bride?
|
The opening theme for this movie sounds like a total ripoff of the Halloween theme music. |
