I'm sure I'll like it more than you since I'm a fan of James Wan, but the trailers never excited me like the first one's did.

Vtru, I may not be a fan of Wan, but I do admit liking the 1st & being excited 4 it back during its release, so, I'm in the same boat w/ u on that 1, cuz, like I mentioned in my review, the 1st trailer just felt like a watered down version of The Exorcist. W/ that being said, the Ed/Lorraine 1/2 of the film is interesting, the film just doesn't know what 2 do w/ the Hodgsons 1/2 rly, so, it ends up being disjointed & lacking development, in terms of the antagonist. Alongside that, I can usally @ least give Wan his films' cinematography w/ the moodiness, the authenticity, & the colors that *POP* (specifically in the cases of The Conjuring & Dead Silence), but this was just rly WAY 2 fucking glossy 4 me & it ended up making it look cheaper 2 me. Becuz u r a fan, however, I do hope u end up enjoying it more so than me, tho. :sipgrandma:

I rewatched The Conjuring last night and it was much creepier then I remembered. James Wan pulls off a whole lot of impressive scares that play into audience expectations by doing the opposite and of course the claps which aren't near as effective the 2nd time around but still creepy. It has great set design and its slow introduction to the Perron family really make you care about them and what they're going through, which really helps balance the all out terror of the 2nd half. The one thing that really bothered me upon seeing it this time was the part with the Warren's daughter, it was a completely unnecessary detour that added nothing to the film. Several things that happen in the climax come off as blatantly stupid just to add more where it wasn't needed. Still, this is a great horror film and easily one of the decade's best thus far. On to the sequel tonight.

I forgot they had one too until I watched it last night, probably cause she's the worst part of the movie. :cackle:

I have mixed feelings about The Conjuring 2, watching them so close together really exposed how this hit all the same beats as the first. The story structure is almost completely identical, not differentiating itself for about 90 minutes which kinda sapped some enjoyment out of this. Like the original this a beautifully made horror film, but a less interesting one despite having all the elements needed. The Hodgson family introduction wasn't anywhere near as compelling as the Perron's family was which made for a slightly boring first 40-50 minutes that were livened up whenever the nun showed up. The nun was by far the most interesting/scary thing in the film which made me wish that they would've revealed the twist earlier. The climax unfolds too quickly also, a bit of a letdown to see everything end so quickly. This movie also got oddly sentimental and comedic just before the climax which really did nothing but pad the runtime. Overall this is a solid but much more flawed sequel, but at least it's a million times better than Annabelle.

Hmm, kk, it seems as if we've got a fairly similar mindset going in2 this, even tho I couldn't pinpoint how #WashRinseRepeat the formula was due 2 me having not seen it since when it released, even tho that definitely manifested in other areas, what w/ the plot/charries just wasn't nearly as interesting 4 me, outside, like u said, the nun & the "twist," which came FAR 2 fucking late in2 the movie 2 make much of a difference considering how rushed the finale ended up being. :arisure:

I do think its worth mentioning the arc between Lorraine & Ed since it managed 2 be the most interesting aspect of the film 4 me & what held it 2gether amidst all of the shortcomings across the board, despite it including the ever 4gettable & atrociously acted daughter & playing in2 the unnecessary sentimentality that made the film as overstuffed as it was, but, they were still the discernible highlights. :teriwhat:

All-in-all, tho, I'm glad I decided 2 watch this ahead of time instead of having an Oct day specifically dedicated 2 both the 1st & 2nd & Annabelle, cuz IK that would've been a mess of a day, even if I've yet 2 c Annabelle & probz won't ever be doing so. :yeahhhno:
