Updates For everyone that has made a character here on Threads of Fate, I wish to inform you that there has been a drastic change in how character abilities work. No longer are there Classes or Signature Attacks on the board, just whatever you put under Skills. This means your character can basically have whatever powers you wish, so long as they aren't over powered and match whatever your character's Spiritual Class is. Also, this means that the 'Class' section of the character sheet has been removed, meaning you'll have to edit your Character Sheet and remove that section and your Signature Attack section as well. Also, I have added a 'Nationality' listing under the Character Sheet, so you will need to add that as well. -DiamondDust |

We at Threads of Fate want to have individuals that have never seen an episode of Yu Yu Hakusho have a full understanding of the source material so that even they can post here with confidence! As such, I've decided to come up with a sort of 'Newbie Guide' for those unfamiliar with the manga and for those that know of it, but are perhaps knew to the world of 'RPing'. So then, let's begin! I hope this information is of some use to someone out there. Q. What in the world is Yu Yu Hakusho? A. Well this site(http://www.yuyuhakusho.wikia.org)and a few other sources scoured over the Internet could probably explain this much better than I could, so I'll give you a short summary of the show/manga that comes straight from the website I supplied above. I take no credit! YuYu Hakusho (translated as Yu Yu Hakusho, Ghost Files and/or Poltergeist Report) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is struck by a car while trying to save a child's life. While in the afterlife, he is named the Spirit Detective by Koenma & Botan, and must investigate cases concerning demons and apparitions. Yusuke travels with his friends Kuwabara, Kurama & Hiei, the other protagonists of the story. As the series progresses, the series strays away from a detective story to a more fighting-oriented story. Yusuke Urameshi is a street-brawling delinquent with a tough guy approach to everything. Atsuko Urameshi , an alcoholic, gave birth to him at the age of fourteen and took a backseat in raising her son. He has a reserved seat in the guidance counselor's office, and numerous other delinquents in the city are constantly trying to take him on. To put things short,Yusuke is pretty fed up with his life. However, no one expects a sudden act of heroism on his part: he dies trying to save a little boy from a speeding car. When he arrives in the afterlife, he is informed that the child would have miraculously survived, and had it not been for him the child would have one less scratch on his right arm. His act of heroism, therefore, was "completely pointless." Yusuke's premature death was unexpected and unnecessary, and the afterlife was not prepared for his arrival. After numerous tests to gauge his worth, Yusuke is eventually revived, and is assigned to work for the Spirit World as a detective investigating demon cases in the human world. He comes into spiritual abilities of his own, and enlists the help of numerous friends from Spirit World, Demon World, and Human World to aid him in his cases as they fight off demons and humans seeking to rule over all three worlds. YuYu Hakusho has been well received since its debut, with the manga selling over 49 million copies in Japan alone and winning the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen manga in 1993. The animated series won the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize for best anime in 1994 and 1995.YuYu Hakusho has been watched by a large number of television viewers in Japan and wide range of age groups in the United States. The anime has been given mostly positive reviews by critics in North America, which compliment its writing, characters, and amount of action. Some reviewers have judged the series as being too repetitive. Q. So who are the characters? A. The main characters are Yusuke Urameshi, Kazuma Kuwabara(a.k.a 'The MAN!'), Hiei, and Kurama(also known as 'Yoko Kurama' when he's his older, sexier self). The four are usually off saving the world from various demons(and in the 'Chapter Black' saga, humans!)using their individual abilities and personalities. Yusuke Urameshi is the main protagonist and a juvenile delinquent. As the toughest kid at his Junior High, he smokes, gambles, cuts class, and gets into fights on a constant basis. He ends up dying, however, saving a kid in the street who was about to get hit by a car! A very uncharacteristic act on his part and those in the Spirit World thought so as well. They hadn't yet prepared a place for his soul to stay, having never thought he would sacrifice himself for another. As such, the leader of Spirit World, Koenma, devises a deal that will allow him to come back to life. At first, Yusuke doesn't want to, thinking that no one would miss him while he was dead. He is soon proven wrong and he sees that its the exact opposite! As such, he eventually agrees to the ordeal and after several trials and bumps along the road, he succeeds in returning to the world of the living. He is soon 'hired' by Spirit World to be a 'Spirit Detective' someone deals with all sorts of supernatural shenanigans, that often involves him battling a demon or two to save the world. He goes on quite a few adventures along with his friends, including defeating a demon named 'Rando', a sort of half demon, half human individual named 'Toguro', and a former Spirit Detective named 'Shinobu Sensui'. Despite all these challenges(and he actually dying again against Sensui and gaining demon-like powers to boot!), Yusuke usually perseveres through it and comes out stronger than before. He's a reliable guy that genuinely cares about his friends and family and usually doesn't stop until his job is done. In the last arc, the 'Three Kings Saga', Yusuke is stripped of his position by a paranoid Spirit World and instead travels to the Demon World to find more about his demonic heritage, meeting his ancestor along with way and finding out that there's bad blood between him and the other S-class demons of the realm. In order to stop an all out war, Yusuke proposes the 'Makai Tournament' so that a decisive ruler of the Demon World would finally be decided. After all these shenanigans, Yusuke 'settles down' and opens a ramen stand after graduating from Junior High somehow. From there, he acts more as a 'demon consultant', using his powers to make a little extra cash on the side. More accustomed to fighting demons, Yusuke is somewhat disappointed when his jobs include getting an autograph from a female demon for a fan and solving a haunting at a girl's dorm. Kazuma Kuwabara is another main character and Yusuke's rival(and eventual friend). Some would consider him 'the sidekick', but Kuwabara's simply too awesome for such a lowly title! Kuwabara bears the brunt of Yusuke's beatings in the beginning of the series, being the 'second' strongest kid at their school. When Yusuke dies, Kuwabara is devastated and sees it more as Yusuke 'running away from their fight.' Once Yusuke is resurrected and a full fledged Spirit Detective, Kuwabara often tags along with him, having developed a power known as the 'Spirit Sword' which he uses in battle and his rather unusual 'Spirit Awareness', or ability to sense the spirits of the dead. While not as strong as his comrades per se, Kuwabara is more than a capable fighter and has taken on his fair share of nasty demons in his time, including: Rando(he lost though and got most of the bones in his body broken and he was even shrunken down to the size of an action figure! Ouch), Byakko of the Four Saint Beasts, Elder Toguro(He 'killed' Elder Toguro by literally making a "SPIRIT FLYSWATTER!" and flattening him like a pancake!), and Seaman of Sensui's gang(although Seaman wasn't really a demon. He was a human who had acquired demon-like powers). Through it all, Kuwabara eventually acquired an ability known as the 'Dimension Sword', which like the name suggests, literally allowed him to cut through barriers and other mystical things(he could even cut the fabric of time itself and make 'shortcuts' through long areas, like a hallway for example.) Later in the series, he stays out of the fighting and focuses on getting into a good high school, so you don't see him much the last arc of the story. Kuwabara often comes off as 'dumb' to his friends and those around him, but he's much smarter than he looks and his cunning has gotten him out of a lot of sticky situations. He has a soft spot for his cat and Yukina, his love interest. Plus, he's got a personal 'code of honor' he always adheres to. This guy is just too cool. How could you not love him? Hiei is a fire demon and a mysterious guy in the beginning of the series. He along with Kurama and another demon named Gouki steal a bunch of treasures from Spirit World to use for their own personal reasons. Hiei simply wants to rule the world at first by turning its populace into his slaves, using one of the treasures. Yusuke battles him after dealing with Gouki and Kurama and at first, Hiei has the advantage because of his immense power and his 'Jagan Eye'. However, Yusuke manages to best him using a clever trick and from then on out, Hiei is basically 'one of the good guys.' He helps Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara in fighting the Four Saint Beats and he enters the Dark Tournament with them to battle Toguro and any other demon stupid enough to get in their way! During the Dark Tournament, he fights a lot of strong individuals and develops a technique known as 'Dragon of the Darkness Flame'(or Jau Ensatsu Kokuryūha for those who don't like FUNimation's dub name for it!), which basically destroy...anything stupid enough to be in its way. He also shows that he's the best swordsmen in the show and he's rather quick on his feet too. After the Dark Tournament, he helps Yusuke and company battle of Shinbu Sensui and his goons before joining Mukuro's side in the Makai Tournament. Hiei often comes off as brash and cold, Kuwabara having a long standing rivalry with him. Nevertheless, Hiei does care for his friends for the most part and treasures his sister Yukina above all else. Plus, his outfit is just badass! And finally, we end this whole chabang with Kurama, a fox demon who was once a notorious treasure hunter in demon world. After an encounter with the Spirit World fuzz, he was mortally injured and had no choice but to transfer himself to the Human World, where he took over the body of an unborn baby by the name of Shuichi Minamino until he could regain his strength and return to pillaging! However, plans changed when he soon grew an attachment to his human mother and decided on staying as a human. A couple of years later, he learned that his mother was dying and he desperately wanted to find a way to save her. That's when he teamed up with Hiei and Gouki, broke into Spirit World, and stole three treasures from one of their vaults. What he ended up with was the Forlorn Hope, a mirror that would grant the user any wish they wanted on a full moon at the cost of their own life. An injured Yusuke(after getting his ass handed to him at first by Gouki before finally disposing of the demon)eventually stumbles onto Kurama, assuming him to be an evil demon just like his other too comrades. The Spirit Dective is surprised thought to find that Kurama is actually a good guy(go figure...)and that he wants to use the mirror for basically good intentions. Anyway, with Kurama's mother closer and closer to death, he tries to use the mirror, but Yusuke stop him, saying there'd be no point doing such a thing if it would only make his mother sad that he was gone(aw...). Eventually, the mirror takes half of Kurama and Yusuke's respective life forces(in the anime, the mirror I guess gets just as emotional and simply heals Kurama's mother)and that's the end of that charade. Kurama assists Yusuke with defeating the Four Saint Beasts afterward, revealing his patented 'Rose Whip' and his other 'flower powers'. He also joins 'Team Urameshi' in the Dark Tournament and wins some crucial matches for the team. At a few points in the tournament, he transforms into Yoko Kurama, his former self, and really lets his opponents have it! After the tournament, he also assist Yusuke in fighting off Shinobu Sensui from destroying the world and after that, he joins Yami's side in the Makai Tournament. Q. What's Spirit Energy and why is it Divided into different 'Classes?' A. Well, there's actually three types of Energy in the Yu Yu Hakusho world and subsequently, what we use here on Threads of Fate. Spirit Energy is what most humans, like Yusuke Urameshi and Kazuma Kuwabara, have, though most humans are either too weak or unaware to use this power properly. Spirit Energy is used for a variety of different attacks(like Yusuke's Spirit Gun or Kuwabara's Spirit Sword)and is usually blue in color. I'd suppose some would say this is the 'weakest' form of Spiritual Energy, but that's not necessarily the case. Demon Energy is used by...you guessed it, Demons! It's usually colored red and supposedly, its stronger than Spirit Energy. This is what most of the demons in the main series use(ones like Hiei and Kurama), thought it should be noted that most demons don't even take advantage of this, rather choosing to fight with their own strength. I honestly can't say if they're just being too prideful or if they're on to something here. And then there's Sacred Energy(or Seikoki for those of you who don't like FUNimation's dub name for it). Sacred Energy is on a whole other level from both Spirit and Demon energy and its said that you have to train for at least forty years before you even come close to obtaining this(thought Shinobu Sensui, the only guy canon wise to use Sacred Energy, cheated by using his 'split personalities' and dividing the training up amongst them. Pretty smart, if you ask me). Sensui utterly dominated Hiei, Kurama, and Kuwabara all at the same time using his Sacred Energy, even with they were all A-Class individuals! He even killed Yusuke with it(though Yusuke was revived thanks to the demonic blood in his DNA and he in turn killed Sensui while being controlled by Raizen)! In the anime, Yusuke make some sort of 'ghetto' version of 'Sacred Energy' by combining both his human and demon powers together(though Koenma himself says this isn't Sacred Energy, but something 'new'. Yeah, even more confusing). The Spirit Classes are pretty straight forward and seem to apply to all three forms of energy, despite the 'Spirit' title in the name. They're somewhat reminiscent of Power Levels from Dragonball Z(although Yu Yu Hakusho has its own Power Level system that I'm not going to get into right now, lol). There are five classes: E, D, C, B, A, and S and it goes from weakest to strongest in that order. Basically, if you're E, you aren't even worth mentioning and if you're an S-Class, everyone needs to start running away from you...like right now. Most humans are around E-Class, while most of the weaker demons are High E-Class to D-Class. As the series progresses, each successive enemy and the protagonist themselves rise up the ranks. Yusuke goes from being a low D-Class in the beginning all the way to a Mid/High S-Class toward the end of the show. Hell, even Kuwabara makes it to High A-Class, making him the strongest Human on the face of the Earth by the end of the series(Sensui would technically be the strongest human in the entire series, as he was Low S-Class, though I said 'living', so...)! The Three Kings in the last arc of the show are ALL High S-Class and that's why no one dares to mess with their authority but each other, of course. There's this barrier that was set up by King Enma that separates the Human and Demon World(now gone by the end of the series) that once held I believe up to B-Class demons at bay, which also explained how all the small fry of the show got into the world of the living. Q. What is RPing? A. The term 'RP' is of course short for 'Role Play', like the stuff you'd see on a Broadway production. When it comes to sites like this, RPing basically means creating a character and typing out all his/her/it? lovely adventures for everyone to see. An example is an order, of course... "Yusuke aimed his index finger steadily, as blue spirit energy quickly formed around it. He then fired offed his patented Spirit Gun was a smirk." Q. What does 'OoC' and 'IC' mean? A. OoC means 'Out of Character' or something you would do, but not necessarily your character. The Cbox is a great example of OoC, because chances are, you won't be RPing in that thing. When something is 'IC', that means 'In Character'. You would be IC whenever you are posting as your character. Q. Can I make a Character on here? A. Absolutely! As stated before, Thread of Fate accepts anyone, whether it be someone new to the RPing world and/or Yu Yu Hakusho, or a battle hardened individual, you are welcome here! You can create your character by going to the 'New Souls' section under 'Character Center'! Just follow the 'Character Sheet' there and you'll be on your way! Q. So, how do I get powers and stuff? A. Your powers are different depending on what 'Class' you decide to pick. All your Class's abilities are laid out in a neat topic and all you really have to do to get them is...*drum roll* POST! That's right it's that easy! No stupid states or numbers that no one wants to keep up with! Instead, let Zetaboards do all the counting for you, while you reap the rewards! Q. Is it alright if I want to be a canon? A. Sure thing! If you're interested in being a canon character, we simply ask that you submit at least a paragraph of IC RPing of you using your desired canon. After that, you would PM it to one of our lovely staff members before we all review your 'application'. If we deem it fit, you can be a canon, no problem! Q. So, how do I get stronger? A. The same way you get abilities, by posting! That's right! Everything's that easy on this board! Just keep posting and you'll get stronger in no time! Q. How many characters can I have at a time? A. Three. And they can be whatever three you wish! So, if you wanted to have three humans, or three demons, or three canons for that matter, you could! Q. How many topics can I be in at a time? A. Three, and that's for good reason! If it were more than three, then chances are, something would happen in one topic that would affect something in another. Say, you got powers in a newer topic, but didn't have them in an older topic? What would you do then? Q. I have a problem with *insert member name here*! Do something! A. You're more than welcome to PM me or any of the other staff members here at T.O.F. If not, you can always say something in the Cbox below the board or posts in the 'Issues, Problems, and Suggestions' topic. And of course, if we see you being harassed or otherwise bothered by another member, we'll step right in ahead of time! Q. Can I die? A. Yes, your character can die. |
