Updates For everyone that has made a character here on Threads of Fate, I wish to inform you that there has been a drastic change in how character abilities work. No longer are there Classes or Signature Attacks on the board, just whatever you put under Skills. This means your character can basically have whatever powers you wish, so long as they aren't over powered and match whatever your character's Spiritual Class is. Also, this means that the 'Class' section of the character sheet has been removed, meaning you'll have to edit your Character Sheet and remove that section and your Signature Attack section as well. Also, I have added a 'Nationality' listing under the Character Sheet, so you will need to add that as well. -DiamondDust |

Yeah hi, Bill Lumberg here... No, but really. I noticed that in terms of Spirit Class (D, C, B, etc) that even though all characters a member has are supposed to be on one account (according to the rules) that the only real difference is twenty posts for the additional character to progress in class from the norm. Twenty posts isn't really all that much, and at the same time, having things this way essentially allows people to train all of their characters at once, even when they're not using that character in a thread. This could possibly curb character development. Say I have a demon that really knows his stuff, and a human who is foreign to the concept of energy altogether. The demon's growth would make sense, but if the human is suddenly a C class fighter that still knows nothing about energy, something's a bit off, wouldn't you say? So one idea I had is this. Make a thread tracker for your account that is classified by character. Make each Spirit Class reachable by having a certain number of threads on that character, rather than having posts for all of them to level collectively. The staff could even make a template for this. Why do this, Yuuma, you silly silly person? I'll tell you why! 1. It promotes maintaining activity of all your characters, and their growth as individuals. Why go and start threads with every character when collectively they all gain levels through one set of tracked posts? They'll level anyway, so I can pick a favorite and beast him out, and the others follow suit. (Crude example, though effective I feel). 2. It will make people think about taking more characters than they can handle. Since each individual character requires attention for their growth in power and that bit of extra monitoring and effort, it's a big thing to consider before taking on multiple characters. 3. It can help keep things organized. Instead of having to recall past events on the boards from memory, ba-boom; you go right to your tracker, there ya go! Now you may be thinking ''Oh, well people will just make a lot of really short threads. That's not fair.'' My answer to that is this; threads have to be a certain length to contribute to your character's growth! ''But what if the posts are short?'' I believe there's already a guideline to that in the rules. Even if it's ignored, the threads should be graded on quality as well as length, then rendered eligible or ineligible. ''But what about solo training threads?'' These can be graded based on quality, the length of each post, and other factors rather than the length of the thread. Depending on if it was reasonable, un-rushed, and generally gone about in the right ways and has quality, it can count as a thread, but solo training should be limited in frequency. This will give people more of an incentive to thread with others. ''So any thread will work? Even if my character's just out for drinks with a pal?'' Not exactly. In Yu Yu Hakusho, training and fighting were both very important to growth whether it was on-screen or off. Really it's the staff's decision here, but I would personally feel it more just to only have training threads and fighting threads count toward increasing power. ''Social'' threads would still have their place, as they are often what advances character plots or even site plots. Now, if I took the rule way out of context somehow, do let me know. I just figured it was an idea worth pitching

Just an addendum, I think its more of an 'unlocking' higher class than an immediate upgrade. Like Kikuchi could be upper d but I keep him as lower cos of his development (which im keeping dead levl with Yuuma). Though I agree, should keep an eye on upgrades with no activity too *nods* |

This. The post requirements are the minimum requirement needed for a character to obtain that Spirit Class, however it is not mandatory that you upgrade your character to said class, nor should you feel you have to. It's like Breeze said, just 'unlock' the higher level whenever you feel it's right. I should have been more clear about this from the beginning and I will update the Spirit Classes thread with this information. |
