Contenting himself to a more sullen then dignified silence J'kar listened with apted attention the the weyrwomens speech. Noting that she didn't mention B'naf and her gaze never even strayed towards him. A note of annoyance perhapes, or could in be embarresment? EIther way J'kar knew what was coming, a promotion of sorts. To a wingsecond! Through he liked being a serch rider immensely he figured being a wingsecond would be a mucg better occupation with his time. That or corce being said, he would need to command much more respect that he did anyways. The first step was obviously not to angrer the weyrleader. Well, not to much anyways. Of corce, then again if he was put in B'naf's wing life would be miserable. Speaking for the first time in a not gesting rather somber manned he calmly asked, "I'd like to be a wingsecond. I'm sure my /talents/ would be of much use." He asked calmly his voice lingering on the word talents, as if he had been a masterharper or something. Perhapes, he should go meet the man. He was of corce curious to hear some news from harperhall, having been in love with the great sagas since he was a lad. As for the firelizrds, bah, ,ost of pest then help really, floating around during threadfall! Bah. With a deep sigh he wondered just what the Headwomen would say, odds are she would report everything was in order and that it was fine and dandy as things mostly were... Waiting for a censisous agong the council his mind began to wander... Over just who, was going to impress what at the hatching, no doubt a fine clutch, for sure a queen. Smiling lost in his thoughts he drifted off. Not paying much attention the the converastion, least he heard his name.

"Of course you didn't. I just decided now that it would a good time to hear about the state of the Weyr. I'm not sure if we should include that in the meeting, I actually suggest that we take that up after our meeting. But I think you should hear this, Miniea. You're the Headwoman, after all." The Weyrwoman bowed her head in obvious respect for the older woman. "Please, do take a seat. Anywhere you want." She smiled and then turned her attention back to the Riders, just in time to hear J'kar. Talents? For what? Causing problems? Anyway, she couldn't refuse him to be wingsecond. Then she looked over the crowd of Riders. Where were all the bronze Riders? Only B'naf and M'helan were there. Hadn't R'kyh, N'har og R'om gotten the message? She sighed. M'helan was preoccupied with the upcoming Weyrlings. For the first time during the meeting, she turned her glance towards B'naf. She wished he would speak up. He'd make a fine Wingleader, and it was only appropriate for a Weyrleader to hold a Wingleader position. Besides, he would be able to control J'kar...she hoped. She wished she had noticed the brown Rider more...was he like this to every bronze Rider or just to B'naf?

Looking up from his pondering over the upcoming clutch and canadaitcity he spotted The weyrwoomen glancing over at B'naf in wonder or was the subtle look askance. EIther way it appered that she had a question on the tip of her tounge, or was that the answer to his question? Blinking a few times a wishes for a cup of hot Klah to clear his muddle mind J'kar spoke, "Hey B'naf," He started resting his elbows on the table and looking with weyrleader in the eyes, a mischervously gleam present as he continued, "Why don't YOU be a wing leader, I'm sure the great a mightly B'naf is oh so willing to do a days work." J'kar seethed rather annoyingly, he knew B'naf would accept, in not doing so his honor would be tarnished, through brazen the comment was, J'kar knew that B'naf need to be humbled, the last thing they needed was a high and mightly weyrleader. Glancing up at the headwomen again he wondered if she was aware of the tention in the room, her cheery demoner seemed to lighten it somewhat.

D'san nodded his head briefly at the mention of his position and the little firelizard-- he would make certain that the tiny Queen and her handler would come to no grief, and cause none, either. At all other points he kept his tongue, listening with casual interest. As Maniea entered, he nodded a greeting, mustering a smile. Then J'kar exercised subtlety that the densest Weyrbrat would be able to sense a dragonlength away, and his face hardened.

B'naf arched an eyebrow in surprise, his smile broadening to become an honest grin. "I wasn't aware I had a choice! It is the Weyrleader's duty to lead his own Wing, and I don't intend to shirk on any count,
" he fixed his eyes on J'kar's, realizing now that he'd been the cause of the tension. "I realize I'm a recent transfer and that custom may differ here, but at Fort, the Weyrleader reserved the right to choose his own Wingleaders, and each Wingleader the right to appoint his own Wingseconds.

Tkana Weyr is young and there is no Council yet, so I must leave the decision of how appointments will be made to our Weyrwoman yet again. I care only to say that harmony and teamwork among members of a wing are of utmost importance, and the method of the Northern Weyrs yields strong, united wings very capable in Threadfall.
" B'naf raised his eyes to look around at the assembled riders, his expression at last affable, open to suggestion-- but that the final decision would rest with he and Ranea.

R'yth heard Ganianth say something about a meeting, so got up and went. He got there after everyone else and sat in probbily a seat he didn't want to be in. He relaxed as he said down.
[You are quite lazy you know.] >Me? Lazy?< R;yth smiled. Yes, actually, he was a bit lazy. He had been hanging around outside As there wasn't much else to do. He noticed Siage busling about and wondered if she was actualy doing anything or just finding ways to scold the Canidates. R'yth laughed. 'Old Siage probbily found a Canidate doing something other than being lazy and told him off.' He thought.

Listening quietly, N'har forces himself to stay awake at the meeting; it wouldn't do to fall asleep. Concentrating on everything being said, he forces his head to stay above the table, pondering on his chances at being a Wingleader. He'd heard; one or two. He probably wouldn't be one, with that slim a chance, since one position was already garanteed the Weyrleader's. Yes. He didn't hold any hopes for the position, especially since he hadn't had any experience to suggest he'd make a better Wingleader than the other bronze riders.

With graceful glide, the queen landed in the Weyrwoman's cave. A moment later, her head appeared in the doorway, she was obviosly satisfied with herself and rumbling with pleasure. [Need any help?] >You missed your chance for helping me. You almost embarrassed both B'naf and me.< [He'll live through it. What's up with the J'kar thing?] >I'm wondering...< She looked at all the Riders. Obviously, the best choice would be to decide this themselves. That would mean less trouble. >Let's break this off.< [Finally. They won't ever agree, little one.] Ranea got up from her chair. "Riders. I'm glad that you could come here today, but this obviously leads nowhere. As B'naf correctly says, it is his right to assign Wingleaders. We got the chance to use this room for the first time, and we will use it again when needed, but it seems like most of you are still adjusting to the time here." She smiled. "If anybody has any suggestions, they can come into my room now. We will choose a Council, when the Wingleaders have been settled. Other than that, I bid you all a good day." Then she looked at Miniea. "If you would be so kind to stay, Headwoman. I'll try not to take up too much of your time, we all know how hard you're working to keep the lower caverns together." [Craibth, please make sure your Rider stays, too. It would be an embarrassment, if Ranea has to ask him to stay.]

>Finally...now go take your bath, shard it. You never took it, I know.< hissed M'helan to his dragon, [So what? The water was too cold, and I didn't feel like freezing my wings off.] >Shove it...<said M'helan as he stood and stretched his legs by standing up completely straight. The meeting was over, at last. He was now able to go bath and oil his dragon before making up scheduals and jotting down names of the Candidates. "Oh, B'naf, I would like to meet the Candidates this afternoon, if you don't mind?" asked M'helan as he looked to his Weyrleader and Weyrwoman.

When Miniea took her sit and listened to the last half of the meeting, she stood when everyone else did and awaited the Weyrwoman. So many things were on her mind! She needed to sew some more clothing, mainly dresses for the girls, and order more food for the Weyr stores. Boy was she busy! Varroy chirped and reared up to his hind legs, tilting his head to the side somewhat.

Craibth landed a few moments after his Queen, stretching his wings on her weyrledge. There hadn't been a formal decision for B'naf and Ranea to share the Weyrwoman's weyr yet, but it was tradition. The dragons weren't the only pair that should be--

B'naf was still too occupied with the meeting, however, to do more than acknowledge the carress of Craibth's mind that meant his Bronze's return from... frolicking. Nodding his assent to Ranea's decision, for it was really she that led the Weyr in all things until Thread began to fall, he rose with her to properly close the meeting, passing along farewells. He only glanced once at J'kar. He'd need to keep an eye on that man, for sure, even if it was only bitterness or disrespect that had given him such a bold attitude today.

M'helan's question made him pause, and he nodded to the older Bronzerider. "Of course! D'san's the man to ask about that, but I think it's a fine idea.
"

D'san was very agreeable, though he was eager to return to his candidates. They needed to get lessons, soon, and buckle down into the serious business of preparing for the Hatching. "I have no problems with that. I'll be sure that they know."

The young Bronzer had no plans to leave, and started when Craibth informed him that Ranea wished for him to stay. Except that 'wished for' meant 'you're staying, buddy, whether you'd like to or not'. B'naf very skillfully hid a grin, respect for the Headwoman outweighing his amusement.

At the dismissal, N'har, glad to be able to get out before he fell asleep where he was, got up, heading straight for where his dragon waited to return to their weyr. [See? You didn't fall asleep.]

>I almost did. Only the importance of the meeting prevented it.< The rider obviously wasn't in the mood for his dragon's tone, which was mostly "I-told-you-so". All he wanted was the sleep that'd been interupted by this.

Standing up J'kar bowed to the headwomen and simply nodded to B'naf before heading out of the chambers. He knew that the man would be a great leader but deep down he just couldn't accept that... His angry footsteps beat out the path towards the innerhold, his mind wandering as Narr'th slept. There was no need to awaken his dragon now. The news that J'kar might be made a wingsecond could wait tell later. Sighing to himself but for no reason imperticualar he padded down towards the canadaite barracks, he might as well make sure the youngersters weren't at each others throats. Glancing up only one as he walked down the long curving stair case.

((Ugg. Short much.))

"Thank you both. D'san, you think you can have them meet me in the Weyrbowl at about...let's say, alittle after noon?" He asked, knowing it was about time for the sun to get overhead. It would be a great opportunity for both Weyrling Master and Candidate Master to get to know them better. "I'll be seeing you all then." M'helan said, walking out the door and down the corridor. He stepped into the bright sunlight, his heels making a clicking sound as they hit stone. "Finally, the sunlight!" He chuckled and awaited his bronze to pick him up so he could get the oil.

"Miniea? Rubin tells me that Varroy tells her that you're quite busy. So I won't keep you for long." She walked to the Headwoman with long steps, passing the remaining Riders, most of them were leaving. "I simply need to know if there's any problems, which I should know of? Lack of food, lack of space, lack of anything? Need for more hands?" She hoped not, she already had about one ton of papers needing to be read, wingleaders to be chosen and Candidate fights to be dealt with. She knew from Rubin (spyyy!) that there had been some problems between one of the girls and Irini. She had to discuss that matter with D'san and M'helan. >Ky, would you tell Olanth and Taviath that I'd like to meet their Riders after the Candidate session? We'll come to them, just tell them to notify us, when they're done.< [Sure.] Kyriniath quickly passed the message on. [How do you want me to entertain the leader, while you talk with Miniea?] >By making him sign papers.< A rumble from the room holding the dragons told her that Kyriniath did not agree at all. As a matter of fact, seconds later Ky's big head dived through the entrance and picked up B'naf with quite a lack of respect. Making sure to only grab his clothes, she started dragging him into their room, rumbling with the sound that made it out for giggling. Ranea shoke her head and figured that B'naf would take care of himself. She had Miniea to talk to.

"No deary, the drudges are doing quite nicely, just to say. They are cooking up mighty fine meals, and I just sent off some letters today requesting more food, and Varroy will warn me a few days ahead when to order the food for the Hatching Feast! I will need to speak with D'san about giving those Candidates things to do!" Miniea chuckled, watching as Varroy red his wings.

"Oh, very well." She smiled at the Headwoman. "I guess I won't keep you any longer, then! And make sure to come tell me, if there's any problems. I have the time to listen, you know. Oh, hatching feast...I think Kyriniath is holding her own Hatching Feast. On B'naf. Better go save him." She grinned at Miniea.

Of course! We don't need the Weyrleader eaten this early! At least not before the Hatching!" She chuckled and was heading out the door with a twirl of her skirts. 'Sweet girl...sweet girl...' thought Miniea, sighing slightly as she hurried down the corridors to continue her work.

"That sounds great to me," D'san nodded affably. "I'll be sure that they're all there." Saluting the Bronzerider, and then his Weyrleaders, D'san was off to round up his candidates.

Shortly thereafter, he received the word from Olanth that the Weyrwoman wanted to speak with he and M'helan about trouble among the candidates, and grimly he acknowledged, all too aware of what was meant.

B'naf yelped as Kyriniath seized him, dragged rather unceremoniously into the weyr proper by the gold. "Really, Ranea could've just asked me to leave," B'naf blinked owlishly, hanging from Kyriniath's teeth like a slaughtered wherry. Glancing around at the Queen, he grinned.

"And how are you, Kyriniath?" he asked, not daring to use the endearment that Ranea always used for her dragon. Really, B'naf felt a little too far removed from his dignity already. Didn't need to add that to the mix.

R'yth left after being dismissed. He closed his eyes an went to his bed. He seemed pretty tierd lately. 'I wonder why I'm so sleepy?' He wondered to himself. He lay down on his bed after getting there and went right to sleep.

Ranea entered the room, looking up at her dragon. "Oh, let him go. Gently." She pulled out a chair from beneath her small dining table and sat down. Meanwhile, Kyriniath put B'naf on the ground. She then rumbled a bit. "Ky tells me to ensure you that she's perfectly fine and has never been better. But dearest Weyrleader, we need to focus on the selection of Wingleaders and stop playing around with our dragons." There were tease in her voice, and it was hard to tell whether the dear was caring or ironic. "You have already been elected. We therefore only need one more. You probably know the bronze Riders better than I do, therefore I will leave that choice up to you. Other than that...I suggest that you make J'kar your second wingleader. I know he's a pain in the butt, but you can probably control him. And he obviously wants to leave this unusual Search Rider position of his to become second wingleader."

((We're never online at the same time, it seems. So I have to go a bit on, while they talk.))
Kyriniath looked bored at her Rider...she had no interest in the Wingleaders. Besides...she had better things to. She turned around slowly, spreading her wings and leaving the cave with a shoosh.

((Yeah, I'm sorry. xD; I should be on the same time as you tomorrow, but no promises. :> I've been muy busy lately;;;. Thursday - Sunday I'm gone, k? xD;; -cries- ))

B'naf was grateful to be let down and inclined his head with proper, if playful respect towards Kyriniath. "Glad to hear it, my Queen. Ah, but you're right, of course, Ranea," the Bronzer allowed, going over to sit across from his Weyrwoman with a twinkle in his eye, not entirely shedding his lighthearted attitude. "M'helan will be handling the Weyrlings, so it'll have to be one of the others. N'har is my first choice after him, and I don't think we'll have to worry too much about that-- he seems a dependable fellow, even if he's not much of a morning person. Now, about J'kar..." B'naf paused, brooding for a moment, a few strands of his reddish hair falling annoyingly into his eyes.

"He definitely needs to be watched. I think you're right, and sticking him as my wingsecond is the right way to go, but at the same time, I'm not keen on putting a man I don't trust in that position," he mused. Glancing across the table at Ranea, B'naf suddenly found his mind wandering to less than business-oriented subjects, though it probably had to do with Craibth's besotted thoughts. (How long, exactly, was a dragon honeymoon? At least Kyriniath had the courtesy to check in on her rider occassionally!) With no inkling as to what the Gold meant to do, he barely watched her go.

[You might try to enjoy her company,] Craibth suggested lazily, with the airs of eminent self-satisfaction. [You have other responsibilities as Weyrleader besides picking Wingleaders and educating candidates, you know.]
