Private David Moore - 154th Infantry Regiment - Personal Diary/August 5th 1914

"Seems like the world has gone to hell. We received word that our allies across the pond (Germany) have gone and invaded Belgium and France and are pushing forward. We also heard that England is now in the fight, which only means that it will be any day now that we are moved forward. Almost the whole company is spoiling for a fight, never seen people so riled up.

I don't know where I stand on all of this but I do know that I will be there for my friends no matter what. I took some extra practice with my Springfield earlier today, Lieutenant Parker says I am the best in the company. Guess all that hunting and suffering out in the cold with Dad actually paid off. Time to go get something to eat, chow line just opened up, I suspect the next time I write in this we will be over the border with Canada and off to the races..."

Sergeant Thomas Price - Seventh Army/Canadian Front

"Dear Mom,

Well I am still alive and well mom, know I don't write as much as I should but looks like things might actually start around here and I wanted to send you this. I hope you can Dad are alright, tell him I miss him and tell Sara and Jimmy I am alright.

Our officers have been telling us that we will be in the first wave when the "Balloon" goes up. It is great yet terrifying news. But least we will finally get the revenge we have been owned all the way back to the Civil War. Just wish we were fighting the Rebels and not the Canucks but I know we will get to Vancouver soon enough and end this once and for all.

Once more my best,

Thomas - August 5th, 1914"
