Compilation of stories of early Civilization
Author: Heraphenius of Mir

Forward: In my travels, I have compiled and organized a detailed collection and matched stories, both written, and verbal, to detail the early Civilization of the lands.

The Non-Human Civilizations

Before man began to dominate the land, numerous different beastmen ruled the land. In the south, on the northern shores of the continent of Eshar, the dog headed Anput Peoples ruled the land, constructing monuments to their blood thirsty gods. At the marshy Arm between Acentium and Eshar, were the amphibious reptilian Neeshar made their home in the trees above the swamp, eeking out their pathetic civilization. In most of Acentium, the Vindija, the most human like of the races, made their civilization in the plains and valleys. The Vindija used weapons of Bronze, but their short stature, they had no concept of ranged weapons. They fought off the Bullmen of the Mountains, and the Feyfolk of the forest, and drove the Giants north. Many cultures consider the Vindija to be the first creation of the Gods, before being replaced by Man.

The First Civilization of Man

Many cultures in Acentium and Eshar trace their origin to the first civilization of Man, which emerged in a legendary mass migration from beyond the Great Desert. The First civilization wielded weapons of Wood, bone, and stone, and Obsidian. Their armor was nothing more than bones banded together, or leathers skinned from beasts they had slain. They encountered the Anput, and Immediately waged a massive war. The Anput were larger and stronger than early man, wielded weapons of Iron, and wore armor. Man however, was quick to adapt. The Endurance of a man allowed them to engage in long skirmishes that an Anput were unable to fight with. Man began to tame beasts of burden, and bend them to their will. The Anput were soon locked into their settlements, and starved as Man began to pillage their food.

The Civilizations of Man were soon able to drive the Anput to near Extermination, with small holdouts in the Mountains of Eshar. Here, is where Man began to settle. Migrations into Acentium were non-existant, and Migrations went eastward and beyond. For many Millenia, Man began to cultivate crops, form soceties, and create language. Dynasties rose and fell in this time period, and soon man began to look toward the Sea. The Arm was blocked by the Neeshar, who defended their Marsh home with a cunning viciousness, as human armies were entirely swallowed by the Marsh. Man began to construct vessels of Wood, and used cloth to turn the Wind into another asset. Soon, small migrations began to head to Acentium. nothing more than small fishing villages were able to stand, as the native Vindija fought attempts by Man to gain a foothold.

Collapse of the first Civilization

The First Civilization lasted for two millennium, and ended in a well known collapse known as the Sunset Scourging. Steppe Nomads that chose to migrate to the east at the dawn of man, had tamed and bred Horse that were capable of being ridden by Man. Until this time, Horses were used as Chariot pullers, or beasts of burden. The Steppe Nomads swept Westward, with the first Civilization falling in a span of several decades. The Armies inferior to the fighting style of the Steppe Nomads, and in a poetic twist, the First Civilization collapsed to tactics their ancestors used against the Dog headed Anput. Being outmaneuvered on the battlefield, and forced to hole up in Cities while their land was pillaged and controlled. These invasions caused a massive sea migration to Acentium, Sea going vessels being a foreign concept to the Steppe Nomads. Those that stayed behind, were soon under the control of Warlords turned Kings, where most of the modern nations of Eshar claim heritage to.

The Migration to the Floodlands

The main migration of Man began in the Floodlands, coming from the Alejjo Sea. Here, man easily cultivated crops and hunted game. They brought Horses and Aurochs, domesticated fox's with them, as well as their own knowledge of Bronze working. Man easily destroyed the Vindijt wherever they were found in this region. Destroying their settlements that could hardly be called cities, and taking their place at the top. The Vindijt, unable to compete with Man's ability to use ranged weapons, were forced away from the fertile Floodlands. Many Settlements were built on the high ground of the Floodlands, and city states soon began to form. The nature of the Floodlands made large nations like those in Eshar unable to form. These city states soon began to war with eachother as much as they warred with the Monsters and Vindijt that lurked on the outskirts of civilization.

The Migration to the Islands

The Large island of Crayuse took the most of the human migration. On this island, were different clans of large bestial creatures known was Hulks. At 9 Feet, these creatures could pummel a man into the ground. These furry creatures were a point of immediate contention with Man. Soon, they were pushed from the shores, and fought on the hills. The Giant beasts formed a confederacy of sorts at the center of the Isle of Crayuse, and after a 200 year conflict, were erradicated from the island. The Humans on this island began to form their own city states on this island, based around Fishing and some agriculture.
