I'm stuck for ideas for story avatars/characters. Not doing the demon god thing again. Kind of like the idea of solar exalted but it's probably OTT. I've been watching Fate/stay night a bit and there are ideas from there. Are our avatars in-story supposed to be influenced by our own thoughts / feelings at the time we get yanked out of reality and dropped into this situation? I'm still trying to come up with something that will be interesting and satisfying to write (so that I will get my finger out and actually _write_) without being self-indulgent. One thing I'd like is to have the character relatively weak to start with but capable of significant growth. Any suggestions? |

Given the wording I'd worry less about a catgirl and more about a pony... Imagine a more Mary-Sue version of Twilight Sparkle.

No, there are some things too horrible even for me to suggest! |

Well, someone else suggested it in this case. That means you're free to use it without having brought it up on your own. |

I've been toying further with ideas about the "Earth mage" I mentioned earlier and have been unsuccessfully fighting the urge to let such a character diverge from a particular source material. There are some vague outlines which I'm working on for the moment for both the character and where I'll be going with such. For the character's skills and limits, I was (as mentioned) thinking about Earth magic. Elemental magic which can raise walls of stone, change earth to mud to stone or even try for metal, glass or gems (with varying requirements of time and energy), or effect plants for growth or shaping them. There are distinct personal limits and anything beyond the most minor magic aren't fast to cast in any sense. Other minor elemental effects are doable (cleaning water, lighting fires or producing a temporary light, etc) but are far more of a burden. Given the opportunity to focus enchanting items to such effects is also a viable option, but it'd take up the majority of my time for days on end and thus isn't practical until someone else can be helping deal with mundane matters. For plot purposes I was thinking that feeding a few people via forced growth of plants on a day to day basis would be feasible there'd be problems with that method as the numbers got larger. Fields would have to be planted, although with significant help in various forms, and animals will need tended. This would allow a reason for more NPCs to be drawn into the situation. Plot-wise, I thought that I'd be able to ICly handle in this way (or give a reason for such to be handled) a lot of the mundane "Where is the next meal coming from?" problems which would otherwise impede exploration of the Tower or general character interaction. In terms of story, I'm currently eyeing two chapter/sections:

With your permission, I will join in and help build a community of sorts. My avatar will be based on an NPC D&D cleric who I was recently upgrading and planned to introduce as companion (i.e. source of healing) to the PCs. Early on this means I can provide magical and mundane medical care, a measure of protection and some minor utility stuff; I will gladly provide these services for room and board or in exchange for people joining the enclave and making themselves useful somehow. Eventually, (but not for a while yet!) I may even be able to bring back the dead, which could open up some interesting plot options for you all. |

Hm... raises the question of what the cosmology of the place is. Is your cleric a follower of an actual deity, or a more generic "Light"/"Life" etc... and can/do the god(s) have any potential impact on the world. As Bomb is going to be a demon (of whatever variety, as it's not a D&D style in his case) that lends towards there being angels, or neutral-aligned entities of similar nature. Also, what with the 'bring back the dead' there needs to be a decision on what kind(s) of afterlife there may be, whether there's a heaven/hell/limbo/other setup, or if anyone brought back would not have/remember any actual lag between death and being revived... |

I am assuming for now that whether or not 'my' god really exists will remain academic, but that the astral energy mimics the workings of divine magic just as it does any other sort. That probably includes gross violations of the religion or philosophy's ethics resulting in loss of power. As for resurrection, I guess that will remain ambiguous too, at least until we decide on a 'canon' afterlife for our setting? It's possible there is no such thing and the spell just reconstitutes the target character at the time just before his or her death, with maybe some ambiguous memories of tunnels of light or the like due to trauma. OTOH, I'm fine with actually including gods, afterlives and other spiritual elements if you or others prefer it that way. |
