I'll start. I am prepping a new D&D (or to be precise, Pathfinder) game. As none of the players is interested in running a Cleric, I am considering to introduce an NPC who originally appeared in one of the first D&D handbooks: Aleena, the poor Cleric who briefly joins and helps the player in the introduction adventure, only to die at the hands of an evil mage. For a while now I have wanted to explore the results of 'white magic' in a setting not built to accommodate it, especially the consequences of resurrection/raise dead. (Not to worry, these spells do have limitations in place and I don't intend for this to completely change the world.) Aleena is not exactly the ideal avatar (cooties!), but she should prove fairly entertaining, especially with the avatar effect/personality conflict added in. For those familiar with the game, here are a few numbers: NG female human cleric 2; str 9, dex 8, con 14, int 11, wis 17, cha 16 Aleena can cast a handful of simple spells per day and very minor spells as often as she wants, all mostly geared towards healing, protection and purification. Later on her capabilities will get more impressive. She can also channel energy, which heals the living and harms and repels undead (later, also demons and such). A few illustrations can be found here: http://blackmoormystara.blogspot.nl/2010/09/formative-images.html |

Yes, it's even described as "armor exactly like [the PC's]". More questions are welcome, though I am hoping for more introductions as well. Maybe I should have named this thread 'Ask Aleena ALL your questions here'? |

I've gone over it a bit on the chat, but may as well put up details about my own character here as well. Consolidate details and add ones that I hadn't touched yet, and so forth... So, originally created for a Mutants & Masterminds game, based out of/in the Outlaw Star setting, comes one "Marcus Tsuruya" (yes, got that name from HSnY. No, there aren't any actual similarities, aside from being of partial Japanese descent). Combination owner, pilot, and captain of a refitted space-frieghter-turned-salvage-vessel, the "Nebula Soup," and assisted solely by the AI/Computer, "Ladle." So, as can be guessed from the setting, he's tech/skill-oriented rather than having any powers himself. Doesn't have a Caster gun or Tao magic or anything (though in-story he always wanted a Caster just for the coolness factor, and never expected to get one), just 'normal' equipment for his job. This entails an armored spacesuit (originally for asteroid mining), a portable fusion torch for cutting through/apart ship hulls, a handheld cutting torch for smaller welding and opening panels and such, a space-age multitool, comm link, and a blaster/energy pistol for self-defense. So, he/I'll be carrying those things with him (though waking up in armor will not be fun, or comfortable), but won't have access to materials or such, as most of what he used for repairs was in a workshop in the Nebula Soup. He'll be able to keep his things running through low-power modes, conserving shots, and finagling extra power where he can, but until things start being brought in from other worlds (or going TO said other worlds) he'll be relying more on skill, diplomacy, whatever more conventional equipment he can scrounge up, and Luck. Yes, that's capitalized for a reason. On that note, giving the basic stats much as Glor did for Aleena. This is in M&M third edition, so to convert it to something like D&D just double the number and add 10 for the value: Strength 0, Stamina 2, Agility 3, Dexterity 4, Fighting 3, Intellect 3, Awareness 3, Presence 3. And a couple pictures for referencing... http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e374/damian_crash/sample-12db6edef2144c69fac4a5d4ea5f30e7632x640.jpg http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/1253424/ |

Huh... as for me... I'm using a variant of Ciara the baka mazoku. The character could be powerful if he can ever work out the full ability set instead of just experimenting and thinking only of the physical side of things. XD |

For some reason I can only picture Marcus in a state of perpetual dismay at the primitive conditions he finds himself in, especially early on. ("This... is a toilet?") Tell us about your plans, though. Is he going to be the loner type or looking for allies? What does he want out of life? |

Right, about time I remembered to do this... Yeah, Marcus isn't going to be too happy overall at the start. Neither he nor I have any real survival experience/knowledge other than the base requirements of "Find/make shelter (somehow), find food that isn't poisonous (somehow), find civilization (somehow, if it exists)." It won't be completely bad, as his tools/weapons will allow him to make do, but they'd be horribly inefficient/imprecise for the task at hand overall. ("I just shot a bird with my blaster! It's dead and cooked! Well, dead and charred...") As for plans... IC, as pretty much said above, finding the necessities of survival first and foremost. After that, joining up with some group for company/added survival chances/equipment. He'd actually get along... decently, at least... with any relative tech/magic level since Outlaw Star does have variations of magic (so no "There's no such thing as..." and more "That makes no sense to me" at worst), plus the presence of aliens means non-humans won't be a problem for him either, in and of itself at least. Long term plans would be, if not get back 'home,' then at least get some sort of vehicle to use for whatever purposes are needed, as well as the ability to repair/replace his equipment if need be. OOC... He's going to start out in the middle of nowhere, a fair distance from the Tower or any major settlements. Will probably end up at least for a while with a group who've banded together out of necessity but aren't functioning well together, so he'll leave that (whether on his own initiative or with some trigger event is up for grabs right now...) and probably hop from group to group before settling into one, likely one that does exploration of ruins/ship hulks/etc, and once knowledge of the Tower's properties/doorways becomes more widespread probably go on some expeditions through there. Not sure how/where/when I'll end up with the rest of the "PCs" as the way things will go with Richard's Inn/village and such is still in-progress. Edited by Dakkan Sall, Sep 26 2012, 02:55 PM.

In my eyes... Ci is going to suffer horribly. No internet. No modern day convenience, like fast food take out/delivery. |
