Last year was my first Amtrak trip. A vacation to Florida. I rode the Amtrak Silver Meteor Train for 24 hours. The train ride was better than the Metro North. I remember, when I got to Penn Station, my train was being led by an HHP-8 electric locomotive. The train was moving very quickly and about 3 or 4 hours later, we arrived in Washington. Once I got to Union Station, I remember watching the Electric locomotive uncouple from the coaches. At that, point the coaches were extremely silent. After about 30 minutes or so, the diesel locomotive reversed down the track and coupled to the Amtrak coaches. At some points, throughout Washington, the train traveled slowly because of train traffic ahead. I'll never forget my first Amtrak train ride. It was very scenic and I also got a chance to see other trains that I have not seen before in person such as the MARC, VRE, Washington Metro, and some freight trains. I remember throughout the night, the Amtrak train kept on tooting the horn every now and again. The train spent about an hour or an hour and a half at some stations before it proceeded on. |
