Shouldn't that locomotive have a deadman's switch? It may have been avoided if they did. |

I agree, that locomotive could have probably run into some cars in the yard there, or cause some other kind of damage. There would have been no issue if there was a deadman's switch. Robby |

Well considering its Argentina and that engine looked like a piece of crap I think having a dead mans switch in their engines would be like having a foot massager in US engines, lol! Davis |

I agree with that, unfortunately not all countries are as safe as the US is with it's rail operations. (and yet, we still aren't exactly the best at it either )

Well there I dont think anything (including passenger service) need them Dylan. But in the U.S. you may be right. Im sure newer engines just come with them anyways regardless of use. Davis |

i think SD40-2's are the oldest locomotive that will have one (but i don't think all the SD40-2's have one tho) and even if they had a true dead man's switch someone could just put a brick on it (at lease the ones I'm thinking of) and it would keep it held down. |

The one's on the Amtrak engines are really annoying. Every 10 seconds you have to press the RESET or it will go into emergency. I was watching some show like EXTREME TRAINS and when we went on a cab ride of the Empire Builder in a P42DC the guy was almost like fidgeting with the button and the instant 10 seconds had passed and he hadn't pushed it it would make a really annoying siren noise. Alerter. I know that comes on some locos in the GP series. Not sure how old though. And it comes on all modern locos. I think I read that it is illegal to disable it. Looks like engineers will just have to deal with pushing it every ten seconds. |
