Has anyone ever taken the NEC from Boston South Station to Washington Union Station? Yes or No?

If so how much were tickets and what train did you take because i might big emphasis on might be taking a trip this summer and i wanted to know which was better and personally i want to take the Northeast Regional but tell me what you think any info would be great thanks.

P.S. Pleas pick two choices i.e. if you pick yes please also put which train you took and please only answer if you've taken the full ride please or know how much tickets coast. And if you pick no only pick that not two.

You know you could check on Amtrak's site for Ticket prices...expect to pay more, because it is the summer.

Well i've found that the earlier you go the cheaper it is anyway for example Baltimore to NYC is 48 dollars one way at 3am but around 114 in the mid afternoon. Also the fact its summer may now have an effect on ticket prices.

The Acela is always more expensive. But I recommend it. Its generally a nice ride till you hit Newark and Baltimore cause at Newark NJT clogs things up and then usually in Baltimore the good ole railroad i work for along with other Amtrak trains and Along with MARC tend to clog things up. lol

Ive ridden the NEC but only in Jersey. I also would blame Gerr for any and all delays, stops, power outages and anything that would go wrong on your trip.

Penn Station, NYC to New Haven multiple times.
NJT multiple times.
As well as Metro north from GCT to New Haven several times.

Amtrak Ticket Prices vary on a number of things. Some of the known factors are: How early you book, what day of the week your train is on, any forcasted high-use dates, extra accommodations, availability of equipment, etc.

Basically it's best to book a fair ways in advanced (you can book up to a year in advance). Travel on a mid-week day, and not near any holidays. The Acela is considered to be a nice ride however it is more expensive.

I personally have gone the other way (WAS to BOS) and NYP to WAS. Both were quite enjoyable trips. Some advantages to the various services available:
the NER has 2 classes Coach & Buissness. Both are "Reserved Coaches" this means you are garunteed a seat, however it is not assigned to you (until you sit down, and even then you may be able to move seats). Business class includes slightly bigger seats more leg room (coach has more leg room then an airline fyi) a Newspaper (USA Today?) & a single small can of soda.
the Acela has 2 classes as well: Business & First Class. Business is the same as the NER business for the most part. the FC is an upgrade on top of that, with bigger seats, more leg room, Meals, drinks, & access to the Club Acela lounges.
*food & beverages listed are complimentary. Food & Beverages are always (unless your late & they run out) available for purchase in the Cafe Car.

I've rode the NEC only locally before on the MARC trains. I'd love to take a full NEC trip for spite.
