Here is one that explains why I am not a morning person... You know you're a railfan when you wake up in the middle of the night every time a train is passing by across the street.

You know you're a railfan when the history teacher will look at you when the textbook mentions trains somewhere in the article & then expects you to give out extra info that the textbook doesn't mention.

Have a new one:

You known you're a railfan when Railroad Employees ask you for what train goes through where at what time.

Another new one: You known you're a railfan when Employees see you or your car & say "You're back!" or "Our friend is back" on the scanner.

Been there done that. lol

You know you're a railfan when you... ok there's kind of a story with this one.

It all started one peaceful day in Wichita, KS. I was doing my normal run of checking heritageunits.com to see if there were any rare locomotives heading my way. I noticed that in Pratt (a town about 35 miles west) UP 1983 was on an eastbound train, with the arrow pointing straight toward Wichita! I told my grandpa, and he didn't seem too interested in it. In fact, he absolutely DID NOT want to track town this locomotive. It was about dinner time, and my grandpa asked me where I wanted to go. It took me over 15 minutes to think, because I needed to be strategic about this. I wanted to eat dinner, but I also wanted to catch that unit. However, my grandpa knew what I was up to. I was gonna try to find a restaurant near the tracks. After thinking, I had finally come to a conclusion that there were no (good) restaurants near the tracks. So we went to Taco Bell, by the BNSF tracks and not the UP tracks. After we left Taco Bell, my foamer-troll-mode started again, as I attempted to, once again, talk him into getting me close to UP tracks, which didn't work. Then I finally got what I wanted, until I realized one thing. UP 1983 was on an eastbound train. The UP tracks through Wichita are North-South, while the 1982 was on the East-West track, which went up northeast to Newton (30 miles north), so a lot of time wasted there.

Also, You know when you're a railfan when you see my post count. (as of 4/29/13 5:27 PM Central)

You ride your bike to a trackside spot and wait almost 2 hours just to see a UP heritage unit on NS rails, after dark. (sorry epa, I had to)

FYI, this just happened tonight with UP 1983. :)

You know you're a railfan when you convince your mother to move into a house with the Mainline right behind it.

Did that once about two years ago, but the the 2011 Flood in the NE came & kicked us out. Moving back in there soon in about a month or so. Happy so I might see the Circus train later towards the end of Summer.
