Blackpool Vandals: Ch. 14 Phoning it in Following the Kingdom Come event in London, many stars of the UKWF spent time over the next few weeks competing in NJAW and GLL, further hyping the cross-promotion relationship between the three federations. Our intrepid heroes, the Blackpool Vandals, could be seen on several NJAW cards, first showing up as surprise opponents for the NJAW tag-team champions (and hated villains) Shigeo Kido and Jun Motegi. Clear footage with standard production value follows, showing Will and Shaun partying it up on their way to the ring, UKWF championship belts displayed proudly. The NJAW champions seem irritated that the Vandals have dared to challenge them. It’s a fight from the get-go, with Kido and Motegi ambushing the Vandals as soon as they enter the ring. What follows is the type of hard-hitting wrestling one might expect from NJAW, but even though their styles clash considerably, Will and Shaun hold their own. Highlights in montage form follow. Shaun connects with the Ten Ton Hammer, a pumphandle powerbomb, onto Motegi. Kido hits Shaun with a charging front kick as Shaun was laid back against the ropes, the velocity of the strike sending him over the ropes. Will slams Motegi into the guard rail at ringside, runs back to the far barrier, and then charges in with a clothesline that takes them both into the crowd. Motegi drives Will to the mat with a brainbuster for a near fall. Shaun connects with Zero Signal, a cradle-ddt, to Kido, but before he can make the cover, Motegi grabs Shaun and destroys him with his finisher, a tiger driver. As he stands, Will grabs him and connects with his variation of the Acid Drop, ‘Killing the Fly.’ As HE recovers, Motegi hits Will with an inverted frankensteiner. At that point, the bell rings, the match ending in a draw due to time limit. This was the beginning of a bit of bad blood between the two teams which was only exacerbated at the next show when the Vandals arrived on the scene to aid Choji Saiyga who was being assaulted by Motegi, Kido and Saiyga’s chief rival, Masato Mori. Naturally, this led to a tag-team match (Playa!) between the six individuals. Hooray for more montage! The bout starts off with a massive 6-man brawl. Eventually the faces send the heels to the outside and connect with a triple suicide dive spot. In the ring, Saiyga takes Kido to the Vandals’ corner, tagging in Shaun and the two connect with a big double neckbreaker. The heels turn the tide when Mori pulls the top rope down as Shaun attempts to rebound from them, causing him to spill to the outside. Various shots of Shaun playing the babyface in peril, suffering a vicious onslaught from the other team, including a particularly nasty spot where he fell to his knees and all three opponents took advantage of a referee distraction to connect with a triple dropkick, which Shaun AMAZINGLY kicked out from. Will with the hot tag begins cleaning house, plowing through his opponents. His momentum is halted, however, as Mori spews the trademark green mist into Will’s eyes. As Mori lifted Will up into a fireman’s carry for his finisher, however, Saiyga connects with a standing side-kick, enabling Will to reverse into a crucifix pin, picking up the three count! With all the activity overseas, the Vandals were not able to appear in London for their typical promo shenanigans, but they were able to drop a line an phone in a message for their fans. “Hey there, Hooligans! It’s Shaun-” “-and Will!” “-letting you know that, even though we’ve been having a BLAST here in Japan working with the always wonderful people in the NJAW, we’re looking forward to returning to our home soil to party it up with you guys!” “We also want to thank you guys for the love you showed us during the 2014 best-of awards! Not one, but TWO honors! Sounds like another reason for all of us to hit the pubs, yeah?” “Sounds good! First, however, I’ll be back in singles action against...um...which Skyline guy is it again?” asks Shaun. “Sean 9.” “Right, right. The one with the ‘stache. Look, all kidding aside, Skyline Noir is an impressive team, and they really pushed us to greater heights in that ladder match, and that’s not an intended pun!” “But it IS a pretty good one,” Will remarks. “I’ve little doubt that we’ll be clashing many more times in the future, and boys, singles matches, tag matches, title matches...you name it. Any time, any place. We’re always willing to lock up with the other two Brits in the Brit fed and show all the yanks how it’s done! Seanix, I’ll see you in the rings, and Hooligans, we’ll see YOU in the pubs!” “Vandals, signing off!” adds Will, ending the call. |
