The only thing that happens to me is that my brain selects a song..(usually one I hate..like ''chirpy chirpy cheep cheep'')..I can't get it out of my head..called Earworms..
I'm a musician. I just performed Mendelssohn's Elijah with 175 others this past weekend a couple of times through after months of rehearsals. You pretty much memorize an entire oratoirio and, believe me, it rattles around in your brain for weeks. Bach is the worst. Eight part madrigal ear worms ...

That's not half so bad as waking up in the middle of the night reciting Justin Bieber.

Watched a 17 year old playing Shostakovitch 2nd cello concerto while winning "young musician of the year", last night. Staggeringly brilliant.!

Any of you guys fans of Rap {crap]? I've pretty much given up on pop type 'music' since so much appears to be of this type these days.

The best [to my mind] of classical music and a pick of the oldie pops does for me these days - filtered through the gentle swishing of my tinnitus.

Oh noes :nono: . I think rap marked the point when I became a Radio 2/Absolute Radio/Heart person and rap is just about never heard there.

There is however a lot of 'popular' music that is still very good even if aimed at under 20's. I will confess to having Taylor Swift on my iPod :-[ even though I can't stand the woman. PS it also has Classical and GnR on it too.

Enjoy (or not) and have a free earworm all day

Slimy Bieber is Canadian (Ontario IIRC). Just thought I'd mention that irrelevance just to stir the shit a little ;-)

Says the bloke who yesterday ordered an Enrique CD because Mrs K heard him in a restaurant and wanted it. Why do Amazon deliver so quick and why do ear worms last so long? :banghead:

So, been listening to music on youtube.

And have seen several of those "top ten covers" lists.

I thought it may be a nice twist on this thread if we posted our top cover-versions.

So here's my to three cover versions:

3) Nothing Compares To You - Sinead O'Connor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZCiHsIfrOg

2) Hurt - Johnny Cash
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9HKxMgekCo

1) Sound Of Silence - Disturbed (Every time I listen to this it gets better and better)

I'm with you on Sinead, captivating performance.

Different Corner by George Michael is another I never tire of listening to.

But add a theatre rendition Michael Ball - Empty Chairs hits the soft spot.
while you are there check out Lea Salonga - On My Own - another star of the stage that has it going.

Which version is that Oddball?

It's not the most well known Barry McGuire version which was in itself a cover of the Turtles rather tame original

(being sad I have both versions)

White riot, I want to riot
White riot, a riot of my own
White riot, I want to riot
White riot, a riot of my own

Black man gotta lotta problems
But they don't mind throwing a brick
White people go to school
Where they teach you how to be thick

An' everybody's doing
Just what they're told to
And nobody wants
To go to jail
White riot, I want to riot
White riot, a riot of my own
White riot, I want to riot
White riot, a riot of my own

All the power's in the hands
Of people rich enough to buy it
While we walk the street
Too chicken to even try it

And everybody's doing
Just what they're told to
And nobody wants
To go to jail

Just heard this for the first time in maybe a decade, or more.

And I had forgotten just how bloody awesome an album it was.

They really do not make them like this any more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7VLgEhiBxA

The first 1:50 minutes is probably worth the cover price alone.

Memories!
Me and my gorgeous girlfriend (now wife) would duet on the dance floor, on the street, impulsively anywhere and never hold back.

[Girl:]
Stop right there
I gotta know right now
Before we go any further

Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
And will you make me your wife?

Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
And will you make me your wife?

I gotta know right now

Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?

Recently watched Cloud Atlas for the third time (1st time I thought it was either the worst or the best film I have ever seen; by the time I had watched it a third time I was in no doubt it is by far the best film I have ever seen; and will I think in 20 years or so be considered a paradigm changing movie) and the music from the film is, IMO, just as good.

https://youtu.be/C2U-lL_qdTI

Very few pieces of music can make me feel the full joys and the interminable sadness of life simultaneously - this manages it, in spades.
