Two days ago, the gas two burner hob in our kitchen "died," (thermocouple threw a wobbly changed one burner into a pulse jet.) The hob has only lasted 25 years. The electric ignition system on the hob having died a couple of years ago it is now unscrew the household wallet and get a new hob. Just one problem it also means a new worktop as a gas hob to fit the hole in the current one longer exists. Thus far a new work top cut to length at a Destroy-It-Yourself emporium has cost £40 with the emergent property there was an offcut big enough to replace the now rotting worktop the kitchen sink is fitted to. (This will be handy because I have got to fit a new dual mixer tap due to the old one being "on the way" out and us both getting old and decrepit and needing 1/4 turn long handled taps. That was a pending project, already have a new dual tap ready for fitting.) I managed to find a new two burner gas hob for propane , (we use bottled gas,) that is normally fitted in motorhomes and floating gin palaces. £125, a bargain. Before anyone asks, I will not be connecting it to the gas myself, but I will be fitting it into the work top because all the safety clearances are specified, in the "destructions." The 500mm vertical clearance asked for could be a slight problem because I can't check that until it is in place. If there is 500mm vertical clearance 135mm behind the outer edge of the rear burner, not a problem, if there isn't a small shelf currently in place will have to be moved higher. I will also have to wait until my neighbours are out before I cut holes on the worktops. |

Any problems with the gas work just ask RJD, he fitted an entire central heating system including the boiler himself (with no leaks!) and with none of that expensive and troublesome testing malarky either!

No thanks, the connection will be done by an approved fitter who can do the testing and certification as well. He is Cornish to, not Eastern European. |

Good luck, hope it all goes well but will keep an eye out here in Hampshire for a mushroom cloud in the west. |

I replaced 2 rads today, refilled the system and heat tested, first time it has run this year since last march, mind you, I have a log/coal delivery on Saturday so it may still stay off until later in the year. |

The hob arrived today, but it will be some time before I get to the stage of needing a gas fitter. I have to fit a new worktop first the cut the hole in it to fit the hob. (No template in the kit so I am going to have to make one.) |
