Bob Crow was previously the head of this little known campaign, but it's a laughable kick in the teeth for all those who claim "socialists" (they're actually Trade Unionists here) want to be/benefit from being part of the EU. !bgrin!

And this from April -

http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/a-866a-Communists-back-No2EU-challenge-to-Ukip-poison#.VDlbbKKKnMo

Quote:

Britain's communists have welcomed the No2EU — Yes to Workers’ Rights challenge in next month’s European Parliament elections as “a vital antidote to the reactionary and anti-foreigner poison” of Ukip.

General secretary Rob Griffiths told the Communist Party political committee on Wednesday that Ukip was preying on disillusionment with Establishment politics and the European Union.

“But Ukip leader and ex-City speculator Nigel Farage (pictured) is a first-class passenger on the Brussels and Strasbourg gravy train who opposes trade union and employment rights, proposes further tax cuts for the rich and big business and wants to privatise the NHS,” Mr Griffiths said.

He pointed out that Ukip supports the austerity and privatisation that have made 26 million people unemployed across Europe, but then cynically seeks to “whip up a vile wave of xenophobia” to make workers in Britain fear for their jobs.

“Only No2EU — Yes to Workers’ Rights will be campaigning against austerity and privatisation, for public ownership and full employment, and for equal rights for all workers to ensure that employers can’t use cheap migrant labour to undercut wages, terms and conditions,” Mr Griffiths said.

The No2EU alliance includes transport union RMT, the Communist Party, the Socialist Party and the Indian Workers Association.

In the small number of constituencies without No2EU candidates, Britain’s communists will be calling for “a vote from the left to block UKIP and the BNP fascists.”

I would never vote for these guys, but thought it was funny and poignant given the fact that well, it's going to inevitably annoy most if not all of our right-wing members. !bgrin! :P

Well apart from the funny side (and it's a bit last May) there is a serious question: If we accept that being in the EU is to the overall economic benefit of the UK, why does that mean it is to the economic benefit of most UK citizens?

I'm very unconvinced it is.

Seems like it's in neither of our interests, but we are now so deep in it and have signed so many agreements that there may be no way out. without having to accept huge fines and the problems of being shunned by the EU rather than just parting ways.

The opening paragraph of the link reads "25 years after then European Commission president Jacques Delors addressed TUC Congress in Bournemouth promising full employment, better workers’ rights and protection from Tory free market policies in return for full support for the ‘European project’, it is clear that delegates were sold a pup"

There really is no reason to read any further ....... the EU has assumed the same clothes as those Tories. To Imagine it will re-consider, will legislate against it's own ideals and become worker friendly is absolutely crazy.

Out is the only way to break free of it - and kill it off. Then try again, but with the ideals it started out with having been enforced.

Er, you really should've read a bit further down

The last line is telling:

"The only rational course is to leave the EU and rebuild Britain with socialist policies."

No2eu, clues in the title.

Anyway I agree with what you wrote.

I dont think that any of the so called communist countries applied 'communist' economics . IMO 'communist ' policies are simply impossible to adopt .
