Just got back from the Newsagents and noticed this as front page on the Mail (Yes I know its the Mail and they have a record of reporting dodgy "facts") http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2817191/62p-HOUR-s-women-sleeping-16-room-paid-make-Ed-Harriet-s-45-Feminist-Looks-Like-T-shirts.html#ixzz3HrHINFbE Its not her fault any more than PIE episode was as they seem have got the right assurances, the BBC has reported this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29868458 |

You did indeed post this about 30 mins before I did, why the hell it wasn't on the portal when I started beats me. Dumped my thread and I'll comment in this one instead The daily Mail has the story with pictures, but that's because they sent someone over there. Plenty of other papers carry something about it if you google it. It's interesting. The women are hired on four YEAR contracts and cannot afford to fly home to their families throughout that time, or so they claim, they are paid less than the average wage for the job but they do it because where they have come from the money they send home by western union I presume is worth three times what it is worth in this sweatshop. The retailers (well one of them) are apparently up in arms because they were assured the garmets were manufactured ethically in the UK. It seems someone eager to just take the loot forgot to have someone unpick the made in mauritius label and put one claiming it was made in britain. Oh hang on that would have quadrupled the cost of the manufacturing process ... |

Actually John, I think your thread was better as it had a picture. You should have deleted this one. |

In the UK zero hour contracts, part-time work, phoney self-employment and temporary contracts are becoming the norm. Osborne, IDS and Cameron will be looking at how that t-shirt was made for some new ideas. Edited by Marconi, Nov 2 2014, 03:30 PM.

the thing that makes me laugh is harman wearing a t shirt proclaiming herself a feminist. regrettably i have deleted most of my collection of "do your own election posters" from 2010 but up there with "berk and hair" from "mytorytombstone" was one from the conservativehome blog which had harman captioned "i'm all in favour of all women shortlists unless it's my husband who wants the job" a reference to her sudden abandonmentof the party line when jack dromey was up for a nice cushy union job ... and couldn't have it because of the all woman shortlist rule. As my thread title said, this is what a hypocrite with egg on face looks like ... |

Let's be honest about this. This is Capitalism, the shameless pursuit of money and the exploitation and practices that are excused in this all consuming race for profits. The same disregard for ethical practices that spared the bankers being made accountable for their destruction. |

At least Cameron had the good sense to avoid this silly gimmicky stunt; while Ed and the Cleggmeister embraced it with open arms. This is what a feminist looks like? More a "this is what a prat looks like!" |

Surely the Daily Misery did make it all up as it is not conceivable that Harman could be a hypocrite. She believes in equal opportunities for all, except of course her nearest and dearest. You have to hand it to Labour as they can demonstrate indignation, usually with arms crossed whist straddled on the tor of that hillock named "holier than thou", with a very straight face. |

Whats most impressive (and depressing in the same measure) is the length the Mail has gone sending a reporter all the way over there to put this trivia together, just to score a couple of political points. and you just know the Guardian is going to retaliate with something equally asinine. |

Who on earth would want to wear a T shirt like that, let alone pay £45 for it. |
