The Smith Commission on further devolution to Scotland has recommended that speed limits and traffic signs should be devolved to the Scottish Parliament. See link... http://metricviews.org.uk/2014/11/traffic-signs-and-speed-limits-to-be-devolved-to-scotland/ The metrication of road signs, in Scotland is not a priority, It's unlikely to happen anytime soon. However what is important is the legal right, under the law for the Scottish government, to be able to legally metricate their road signs. Edited by scorpio, Nov 27 2014, 11:32 PM.

I'd be more worried about that speed limits business if i were you. I have not much knowledge of the US of A but former work colleagues who have been there on business and pleasure tell me there is a town in the state of Nevada where the locals felt gambling was too immoral to base the town's economy on, with the result that only the truly foolhardy take a motor vehicle anywhere near it, and then only at a walking pace ... |

Considering, that the UK already has a land border, with a country that has metric road signs, (The Republic of Ireland, North Ireland border) which to the best of my knowledge, has had very little problems, I don't consider, that Scotland metricating road signs, would be a problem for English, and Welsh road users. Just set the SatNav to metric.. |

It can be expected that the road signs will be bilingual if they are not already. |

It's a while since I was up there, but a few years back, all the traffic signs around Fort William were predominantly in Gaelic, with the English "translation in much smaller print beneath. Looks like they already can do much as they like. |
