I have been wanting to record some stuff and have found that Windows 7 has a latency problem when recording music that appears to be unsolveable.

Well, not quite, because 'downgrading' to XP (which does not have a latency problem) is an answer.

My problem is that the two computers that I want to use in the studio to record our wailings are both quite modern ones and have been pre-installed with windoze 7.

One of the computers is a very compact thing by Aspire which does not have a CD drive.

I have created a bootable USB stick with an XP image on it, and attempted to install XP but to no avail. The BIOS recognised the flash drive but refuses to boot it.

Any ideas how to get XP on this damn thing?

It will boot from the device, I'm thinking that the flash drive isn't working the way it should for some reason.

I have 3 XP images, so I'll try them all, see if that's what it is?

I have a now rather old Liteon DVD writer that had one drawback ...... it did not have enough Buffer Memory and errors occured if much more than 2 hours of real time data was being transferred. I'll be sure to make sure I do have it when it is replaced.

edit ..... thinking about it again, it possibly wasn't a low buffer memory to blame - my problem was copying a three hour NFL football game direct from SKY .......... it couldn't cope (it has up to six hours of Disc space at the lowest density setting). A two hour movie, no probs.

Have you tried adjusting Power Settings in Control Panel, by setting them to High Performance in Windows 7?
