As I have retired and have more time on my hands, I decided to put some camera gear up for sale that I had lying around, on eBay.

Being an eBay virgin, I sold it first time for the price I thought it would go for, and I'm now hooked, and have begun a small a house clearance of various items that I thought 'would come in handy one day but actually, won't'.

'Er Indoors is highly delighted.

Anyway, does anyone have any tips, experiences, tales of joy or woe?

Be careful to get a signature for delivery.

Ebay has form for being full of scum who bid, take your goods, pay you, then claim you never delivered on the goods. Not worth worrying for a couple of quid paperback or piece of tat, apart from the bum rep you will pick up, but proving they got more expensive goods might be good !!!

I presume so, given the scam works because ebay demand something and the seller can't produce anything. Any sort of signed fpr system should do.

A suggestion ........ the people to put your question to are those with a high rating on e-bay.

I find that whilst watching things happen, that people don't bid any more in the conventional way, items are 'sniped' in the last 10 seconds or so, at the price that people are prepared to offer.

I think it makes sense to put your absolute minimum price in at the start and hope that you attract more than one bidder towards the end.

Be careful you don't get conned into revealing your eBay logon details with a con email about a "problem" with your sale listing just when it's going into the last hours when your guard may be down. Happened to me, luckily no end harm.

As for eBay sniping it's getting silly with 3rd party apps that claim to do it for you but are there any real victims?

These days, I don't sell on ebay anymore. If I buy, I'm very carefull to check the sellers feedback.

I have (so far) managed the removal of several large, heavy boxes from our living-space, with more on sale; 'er indoors' is highly delighted.

Nowadays,a buyer cannot receive negative feedback, which is fair.

When bidding on items, check the sellers feedback BEFORE bidding,'Click' on their ebay name, you will see separate figures for feedback left,as highlighted in blue, Click on the 'negative' figure & ALL 'negative' post come filtered out to view.

It's best not to bid on a seller's item that has received a lot of negative feedback, it's the numbers that count,NOT the percentages.

If selling lots of items, identify each piece, even taking a digital picture of them, recording what they are,any identifier on them, such as a part number, pre-pack each item placing a note on top saying what it is,plus any ebay item number, then, when bidding is finished, just print out an address label, stick it on the item & post asap,as ebayer's appreciate a quick posting, then email the buyer letting them know that the item has been posted.

That's the sensible thing to do.

Put items up on a Thursday evening and list them for 10 days. That way you get 2 weekends of viewing and your items end on a Sunday evening which is one of the most popular for buying.

I also tend to add price of postage in with the starting price and then offer free p&p (one less thing buyers can mark you down on).
