Weather looks ok here. /8/

I'm trying to think of a way to use the eclipse to demonstrate my power to a couple of small children, who despite all attempts by me and their mother refuse to keep their room tidy.

Going to be thick cloud here in Sussex. Ah well it's only a partial eclipse. Anyone know (without Googling) when we're due a full one again?

Pinhole in card arrangement, and much waving of white-gloved hands whilst wearing a gold turban.

Have any of you seen a full eclipse on a cloudless day? Here it is one heck of a rarity, limited to dahn sarf; I was fortunate to experience one out in Hong Kong, back in the 1950s.

The 1999 eclipse was under a cloudy sky. At the key moment as I stood south of the tamar bridge the shadow of the moon came over the clouds above plunging the land into stygian black. It was well scary !

Looks like being a bright, cloudless and sunny day here on the Lincs/Cambs border.

Doubt I'll see it though, can't see my boss letting us have a few mins off to go look.

I recall that curiously, at the last big event, there was a fire drill just at the right time so everyone happened to be stood in the car park.

For the 1999 eclipse my then boss gave us all a nice 30 minute break to head outside and watch it, through glasses he had provided.

Of course it helped I was working at a photography company and the boss had all his flashy, expensive gear (much of it prototype / test models from Canon) out to try and take a few pics.

All The Best

As it got to its darkest here the birds started roosting in the trees opposite for the night! The sky briefly cleared in the nick of time to cop a view of proceedings, and the birdies [confused?] went back to daytime activities as it lightened up again.

It must be a novelty for the English not to be able to see the sunshine.

Sea fog, even though I'm a few miles from the sea, so it got a bit a bit dim and slightly colder.

Just goes to prove God does not like me and even went to the trouble of ruining my morning. Tosser.

Did you get to feel the 'solar breeze' that occurs as a result of the eclipse? Some school was tasked with measuring it.

You mean this

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3000625/Will-solar-eclipse-create-EERIE-WIND-Scientists-hope-observe-strange-impacts-partial-eclipse-weather.html

(Google Solar breeze and you more likely get a page pointing to robotic swimming pool shit remover ...)

When I left for work yesterday morning before the moon started to occlude the sun, the car's thermometer declared the air temp with a noticeably warm wind blowing off the usk was 13. On arrival at Ross On Wye with the sun well over 75% occluded there was a noticeable drop in light level (i no longer posess a solarimeter so I cannot quantify) and the temperature on my journey had been dropping as I progressed, on arrival it was a mere 3 degrees. There was a distintly chilly breeze whipping round the car park in the aftermath.

In 1999 I was right under the totality track. We arrived on a headland car park overlooking the Tamar river and Tamar Bridge in bright sunlight with the vectra's thermometer recording outside air temps in the 'teens and a breeze blowing off the tamar into my face as i stood at the car door facing towards the bonnet.

About twenty minutes before totality the light levels started to get noticeably reduced, the aor temperature dropped like a stone to five degrees and stayed that way until after it was all over, the wind coming from completely the other direction, "behind me" as I looked out over the tamar bridge, and it was from "behind me" that the stygian black of totality crept up on me at the appointed hour.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24282946/2015-03-20%2009.18.51.jpg is a picture taken with the camera on my samsung galaxy tab from inside the office looking out just before maximum occlusion, the 15% of the sun that is not occluded is putting up a brave fight and screws any hope of "ordinary" photography although the keen eyed will see an "internal reflection" image of the actual event captured by the office' double glazing in sharp focus down, and right,

A much better image is here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/24282946/2015-03-20%2009.21.36.jpg

Taken at the point in time we calculated to be maximum occlusion, this shot was taken using the same galaxy tab 3 tablet, but the sun is now seen through an electric arc welding mask filter ...

They probably ticked the wrong box on the press release.

It should have read 'Heath and Safety grounds', which no reasonable person would argue with.

Don't want the kiddies blinded even if you tell them what to do.

There will be others that these kids will see, it's not like they cancelled Christmas, is it?

The school was in an area where the eclipse couldn't be seen because of cloud cover anyway.

The head appears to have allowed live viewing on TV, and didn't want the kiddie-winks outside in their hi-viz staring at the sun, even through a cloudy sky.

Bit of a non-story, really.

Oh right..nothing to do with culture or religion then??

How come most of our children were out watching it?..

The Mozzies don't allow ''an act of God'' to be viewed live..

Television is a good option..

Well the headmaster has refused to name the cultural groups he wishes not to offend.

Perusing the net I find three

Hindus ... made "unclean" by it
Islamics ... apparently it made their prophet a bit alarmed

And a christian sect that reckons it sets a portent for armageddon in a fortnight or so

I'm sure the kids will be devastated when they find out.

I'm also pretty sure that all of the various 'cultures' were represented whilst watching it live on TV, instead of staring at a grey sky. Half-an-hour watching telly instead of boring maths? No contest.

Anyone reported as being 'offended' culturally?
