The most important issue in the papers and on the news is the current immigration crisis, and one ripe for discussion The thread on the subject has been removed,
It would be useful to know why, and whether the subject is taboo, and must not be introduced as a subject for further discussion.

Monitors over to you.

I PM'd you about what happened to the thread.

Another member reported that a similar thread had been started so I merged the two and gave you the link to the new merged thread in the PM I sent.

I was the one that asked for the merge

We get way too many new threads started on the same topics either because someone doesn't look to see if an existing thread is there (and the rules say they should) or in some cases a member is deliberately looking for their particular side point to get an undue level of attention

Either way the effect is the same points have to be made multiple times by the serious posters

The rule (9b) is there. I'm sure the admin didn't put it there because they just wanted to type extra words one day.

Not received, but thanks anyway. Perhaps a reminder on this thread please.

OK as a general principle then can I ask (and i'm putting it in here for all to see) that when those who can do it merge a thread they put something in the new thread description to make it clear it's been done. I'm with SteveK on this, we do get multiple threads, and I for one will merge them where it seems they are ploughing the same furrow ...

I see nothing awry with someone starting a new thread where the same subject matter is given a completely different perspective ...... headings are in themselves often misleading and if anything it is those that have a dubious, often offensive, leaning that should be censored.

But they weren't in this and in most other cases as evidenced by the way they rapidly broke down into the same old comments

As it happened the mods merged the thread not with the one I thought it should be merged with

NEITHER DO I

the problem is almost all the "duplicate" threads on here are nothing of that sort, and most get trashed by trolls of one sort or another.

I'm beginning to think this is a "painting the forth road bridge" game.

Some threads, especially when merged, are already diverse by the fifth post (on topic or off it), and that is true of most of them. It can be tiresome wading through tit-for-tat exchanges looking for something worth reading ......... merging threads does not stop us from having to experience these personal duels - it enforces it.

Well IMHO the tit for tat abuse exchanges should be in the Dungeon.
