Bechmella, a resident of Venissieux, in Lyon, makes a plea to fellow Muslims: "I call on all the Muslims of France to protect our beautiful religion, to track down these impostors who pass as Muslims while killing people.”

[...]

On Tuesday, the Muslim Students of France (EMF) released a video in which they expressed their emotion in the style of a poetry slam. "I am in pain for France, they wanted to weaken France, but they have strengthened the heart of the French"

[...]

During an interview on FRANCE 24 TV on Wednesday, Chirani Mohamed, a former delegate of the Seine-Saint-Denis prefecture, echoed the call for Muslims to rally against fundamentalist terror.

[...]

Dalil Boubakeur, rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, on Monday expressed "solidarity", "dismay" and a "rejection of these unspeakable acts" that "targeted innocent victims". He called on imams Friday to participate in a solemn prayer "to show our compassion and share in the grief of the (victims’) families.” Boubakeur, former president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), reiterated the urgency of ensuring unity in times of collective pain. "We, the Muslims of France, stress the need for national unity, and together oppose this evil which attacks us indiscriminately…. We are all victims of this barbarity.”

Good. Now will the Intransigents applaud this or rant on about all Muslims being terrorists or condoners of such?

PV, the fact that I and several others raised the point in response to your posts made it seem, SEEM that way to me. If I'm wrong them I apologise, but I have still to hear you say that you consider the actions of some indigenous Brits have contributed to the problem or condemn this. Could you please clarify your position an this matter?
Do you think all Muslims must publicly condemn the actions of ISIS?

I don't.

So why should I explicitly condemn an action that 99% of people would instinctively condemn anyway?

Are you saying all White Brits are racist unless they overtly condemn racism? Because that is exactly what it looks like to me.

All The Best

IMO it is only in the past couple of decades that White Brits( on the whole) accepted that racism exists in the UK...or even what it means...

PV, I'm not saying that you should, I'm asking your opinion, if you dont want to answer then fair enough.

But if an individual discusses a subject at length, without mentioning a certain factor, despite being repeatedly asked about it, is it unreasonable to assume that they don't want to talk about it?

All these Muslims condemning the killings of non-believers (muslim term), wouldn't dare to utter condemnation if they still lived in the
middle East. A bit similar to a West Ham football fan standing alone in the Liverpool end of the ground, he wouldn't jump up and down if
his team scored.

Or they see no reason to talk about because their opinion on that factor has already been established - which mine has, I condemn all forms of racist abuse.

PV, fair enough, but my question was more about whether you think it was a factor in the failure of some immigrants and their offspring to integrate?

I believe it probably is.

But I also believe it is one of those "which came first" situations as well: do immigrant fail to integrate because they suffer abuse, or do they suffer abuse because they fail to integrate?

I suspect that, depending on specific case circumstances, it is a little of both.

As Mary pointed out above your family members forced to flee from a park because of racist abuse may equally have been forced to flee due to abuse because they were ginger, fat or wore glasses (that is not to say I think such abuse acceptable - just that I recognise it exists and has many varied causes).

The human species is inherently tribal and when no obvious tribal borders exist we create them; it has, unfortunately, always been thus.

I believe that part of the failure of modern socio-political thought is that it has tried to ignore/destroy that tribalism, rather than accepting that it just a matter of fact.

PV, I agree to a point, but as I said to Mary, people who are bullied over their weight often end up comfort eating even more, withdrawing into themselves, not going out or socialising much etc, or even in some cases becoming bitter and resentful towards skinny people.

A variation on the same theme with certain immigrants and their relationship with the indigenous population.

Also, its not like fat people or ginger people have seen political parties being formed and campaigning too kick them out if their own country. Whilst I'm not belittling any form if bullying, I just dont think its in the same league.

Some halfwits on here will no doubt say,it's not enough,or they don't really mean it.

Not even close to being good enough, but I'm sure they mean it. I'm sure some uneducated bigots will condemn such thoughts though.

For the record, because some people don't know what it means

Bigotry

BIGOT

In English the word "bigot" refers to a person whose habitual state of mind includes an obstinate, irrational, or unfair intolerance of ideas, opinions, ethnicities, or beliefs that differ from their own, and intolerance of the people who hold them.

Racism it could be argued is a factor in the failure of immigrants to integrate, but not the way you perceive it.

I've lived in an number of mixed communities around the world ,except they weren't so mixed. I found the vast majority tend to prefer to stick to their own ultimately,i don't think it's anything sinister, just a feeling of being more comfortable, but it could be called racist. Look at cities like Birmingham or many others. It's not rocket science is it
