Before anyone gets too puzzled about a new Admin, we have created a ZBSupport account as an admin so that Zetaboards can investigate a problem we are seeing right now

It'll likely be very temporary

Would that be the error code problem that I keep experiencing?

No

But you're not the only one. A cause can be when a thread is moved or merged as then any references to specific pages or posts get rewritten by the Zeta software

Occasionally at late hours I've seen error codes or even the site go offline for very short periods

So anyone want to try and guess what the issue we asked for support on is?

An update, a bit of an :banghead: update

This all harks back to May when we noticed the search function had died - again. It has taken a fair few reminders to Zeta to get even a admission that there is a problem. Here is their latest update

The server upgrade is nearly complete. Most servers are either moved or are in the process of being moved to new machines. If you notice any issues with using your board, please make a topic in our support section or submit a support ticket. To allow us to help you faster, please include a link to your board and short summary of the problem. We will then pass on any issues to Brandon so that he can investigate and resolve the problem.

As a consequence of the move, the search feature is currently inaccessible. We are aware of this issue and it is affecting all servers. Upon completion of the move, Brandon will be investigating the cause of this issue and will repair the problem for all servers. As we receive more information, we will update everyone.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this process.

Thank You,

The Zathyus Networks Team

'Free' isn't always the highest quality service but to be fair we get very good value for money out of Zeta

Thanks for explaining things Steve, and to be fair, I can hardly complain about a free service, but it does seem to me that I encounter the problem whenever I press the send button after replying, other than that I think that ZB provide a great service.

Well better news

Zeta appear to have at least in part restored the Search function and our content has been indexed up to midnight September 12th. I just successfully used it to find a thread

Zeta never offered a constant indexed function but it is supposed to run every night so the non indexing of yesterday's results will hopefully be fixed soon

Well the Search function died again when they had that recent server issue but it does seem to now be back on line albeit only indexed occasionally

Half full rather than half empty

I hardly ever use the search function. It has never given me adequate results.

I'm no geek but it does seem to be a software problem that could be easily resolved ........ by geeks.

It's really a money issue. Zetaboard based forums get the server and 'geek' support they pay for (which is usually not a penny)

With cheap servers you can't run continual indexing and with less support staff you can't quickly restore links to replacement servers

Frustrating but fair

I've been on other free forums where the search function was so much better (but not completely flawless). I am not convinced that such must require frequent monitoring or input from support staff. The system could be wholly automated to update itself, even in real time.

Were they really free or was the site owner subsidising everyone by paying for the site hosting etc

Well it seems that the Search function is now working fine. Zeta support finally found the bug and fixed it.
