A curious development in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

It appears that the awfully nice Barak Osama is creating a new piece of federal legislation. He wants to create a new racial/ethnic category; that of "Middle East and North Africa", to rank alongside "Black" or "Hispanic" or "White".

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/white-house-wants-to-add-new-racial-category/ar-BBwQHIi?li=BBnb7Kz

A curious category on the face of it. After all, what racial, ethnic or cultural commonalities are there between an Omani and a Moroccan, or between a Syrian and a Libyan ? Or an Iranian and an Algerian ?

Of course... there is ONE common factor. They are all predominantly Muslim countries (some exclusively so). So, in the light of the term "Islamophobia" becoming increasingly devalued and losing its impact, the "establishment" elite can finally have their ultimate wet dream brought into the waking world.

The ability to call any critic of Islam "A Racist".

You seem to have misread the article RG. For example this bit

Quote:

Under the proposal, the new Middle East and North African designation — or MENA, as it's called by population scholars — is broader in concept than Arab (an ethnicity) or Muslim (a religion). It would include anyone from a region of the world stretching from Morocco to Iran, and including Syrian and Coptic Christians, Israeli Jews and other religious minorities.

Seems sensible enough. Middle east Arab Muslims do not fit into the existing classifications. They are not black, nor Hispanic, nor white. MENA would cover it!

I didn't miss anything, SteveK.

And Alberich... which part of this is not covered by "Arab" ?

Actually... quite a few bits. But then, let me repeat a part of my post.

What ethnic, racial, or cultural characteristics cover everything from Algeria to Iran ?

Other than Islam ?

In racial and cultural terms, doesn't it seem like a somewhat arbirtary - and illogical - construct ?

I think "minorities" is the key point here SteveK.

The majority of this new "race" is Muslim. And that - broadly speaking - is the ONLY thing they have in common.
Can you REALLY say that this proposal makes sense in terms of creating a new "race" ?

I repeat; in ethnic, racial or cultural terms, what do Iran and Algeria have in common ? Could you address that point ?

I hear that Trump if elected will simplify this new ethnic class so ordinary US citizens can understand it better.

This new group will be classified as "Terrorists".

Err no, if it includes "anyone from a region of the world stretching from Morocco to Iran" then what they have in common is deriving from anyone from the 'region of the world stretching from Morocco to Iran'

I am, admittedly, ridiculously white but I REFUSE to become orange!

A pithy statement, however, it could be quite "appeeling"
