Look, I know we're urged to reuse and recycle, and maybe the russians are desperate for spare parts for their aircraft carrier .....

But having personally experienced the sea bed at 30 metres

How the ***k do you nick three warships AND a submarine from twice as deep without the world noticing ?

And more importantly, why

JoG - The older I get, the more weird, dysfunctional and crazy the world appears - it is afterall the 'Age of Aquarius', so perhaps we can blame the 'New Age Movement' :rubchin:

I like mysteries and trying to find rational explanations for them and having done a quick bit of research I have found this out … so just going on what I have read.

Apparently the waters in the Java Sea are not that deep averaging about 150 feet, so salvage would be possible, probably by blowing up the wrecks with explosives into manageable chunks.

As to why they would take the whole ship rather than just the valuable metals like the bronze propeller, it could be because pre-nuclear age steel, called low-background steel is more valuable than the modern stuff, which thanks to nuclear testing is contaminated with radiation, and the main source of this steel is old wrecks. I don’t know what the full use for this steel is but it seems necessary for some experiments and is used in the manufacture of equipment for detecting radiation, Geiger-counters and the like.

I’ve learnt something if nothing else.

The idea that it has been done surreptitiously is very likely wrong.
Which must imply that there is State involvement.
