Shame. A talented man.
I am saddened to hear of this, a very talented man, as was his father, Andrew gave me many laughs and much mirth during my younger years.

R.I.P. :(

He had a funny role in Fawlty Towers RIP.

But why so much fuss? He was not the Albert Einstein of the acting world, yes he was funny in Fawlty Towers - but he was no "John Cleese" and there was only 12 episodes that went around and around.

He just came over as a decent genuine individual that so many people took a liking to.

One should take a look at his list on IMDB. It wasn't always about Fawlty Towers.

I did wonder that myself, well Brand anyway, I confess it's that long ago now I forgot what part Ross played.

Which says everything it needs to say about Sachs.

Because when Mellissa's Hamster died last year aged wall past its batting average and Sarah put it in the black bin and the bin nazi who came round snooping to make sure there wasn't any food waste in the black bins opened it, jumped three foot and screamed "there's a dead rat in the bin....." JUST as I was walikg up to Sarah's door ...

Yes......

Exactly.........

You KNOW what I said, and you even know the way, and the accent I used, to say it.

And as for "There Is Too Much Butter On Those Trays" ............

Yes. It may only have been twelve episodes. It may have been decades ago.

But it damn near killed me through the laughter then, and it still does even when I know it's coming I've seen it a hundred times.

I think it's a fair bet the Beeb will run a couple of the shows again, as a tribute.

And I'll sit down and watch them.

And I will laugh. For the One Hundred and First time.

Not because I can think of no finer tribute to the team that put that on. Although that is the case.

No. I will watch it again because it is bloody hilarious in every way the politically correct marxists of radio 4 and the claptrap that passes for TV comedy today is not.

As you say, Rich.

"I Manuel, from Barcelona, I know nothing."

A funny man and a good actor, who didn't have to resort to smut and swearing.

Basil is essentially a horrid man, bigoted, sexist, xenophobic, a class snob, irrational, and anal to the point where it cripples his sense of self worth, naturally it causes him endless problems as he comes up against normal well adjusted people who invariably lose patience with him, which is the entire basis of the show, do I feel some sympathy for him? Yes, because he is trying to do the right thing.

I also love FT because his faults always leave him on the losing side and having to confront his numerous hang ups and character flaws, I'd say FT was post modern pc. ;-)

The fact you had to google it, proves the point, that apart from Andrew's big performance in Fawlty Towers working with John Cleese, Polly and Sybil which made a big difference the general public would not know who he is. How many on the IMDB list could you have written down?

Andrew was a good middle of the road career actor.

It's not how big the number of parts you played, but how big the part you played in each.

I didn't HAVE to google the man's career, anyone who watches mainstream TV such as Casualty, The Bill, Eastenders, Coronation Street etc., would know that he's an actor who wasn't 'resting' too much throughout his life.

I merely put up the link so that the large list of his credited work would be obvious, even to you.

Besides, YOU said that he's NOT the 'Albert Einstein' of the acting world.

Well, actually he played Einstein in a 1996 Horizon.

Careers are often defined by who had the talent and gumption to seize the moment when opportunity came

Sachs did that brilliantly with Manuel, when you look back his was the stand out performance of that legendary series

And that makes him a great
