For those of you that might wonder where I go other than the debating forum, this is just one of many of the machinists community videos that I frequent, it is not everyone one's cup of tea but it is what I have worked in all my working life and it is as a drug to me.....I love precision in life but I do make allowances for humankind including myself of course. ;-)

There's nothing sad about that. Real skills are anything but sad.

Rich - Only theoretical mathematics can give complete precision in this world, or indeed as far as we know, the rest of the universe, as well. Come out of the cocoon of theory and we meet motion, with its micro and macro variations, and of course, as you allude to, human fallibility and limitation.

If you can, by and large, get things within the 'ball park', then you are doing OK. Even in 'precision engineering' 'tolerance' has to be tolerated. Ah, the good old plus or minus!

Actually neither I or my wife are well, we blame the governments since May 2010. My wife, courtesy of that total (expletive deleted), George Osborne cannot retire for another five years when she will be 66. She had planned her retirement at the then retirement age of 60.

Turned and lathed, brazed and drilled, my own working steam engine (mostly brass) aged 15.
Learning precision engineering has served me very well in other forms of understanding not related to mechanics or construction.

Ironically Delf, I listen to the BBC religiously in order to pick up on it's left wing biasedness, for up to the minute news and reliable info I tune into skynews live, I do not have any other form of incoming info to turn to other than a daily newspaper and I do not credit those with being wholly truthful.

Do you have any better suggestions?

No, your response has eased my troubled mind somewhat, carry on.

I found this equally so, though in a different category altogether :

Yet another reason why the German engineering industry is held in such high regard and this chap is an amateur in his own home workshop, his command of the English language is excellent.

And I do not hold out much hope for Reading tomorrow....I digress....but seriously, if you get the chance, watch this guy....he really is a perfectionist when it comes to engineering.

It will be most interesting to see the Reading manager return to Old Trafford for the first time in 16 years.
