Nah it's idiocy He says he will impose 35% tariffs on cars imported from German plants in Mexico. That needs a complete abrogation of the NAFTA and that he has to get the Hill to approve. And they will bear in mind that you cannot partially tear up an agreement. And seems you forgot the $B multi fines the Germans have already paid |

Those of us with an IQ over 60 know that the EU didn't seek to end its deal with the UK and also know that 10% is markedly different from 35% Do stop the trolling |

My IQ (professionally tested for medical reasons) is 142. Fortunately in the real world I think such results are meaningless apparently that makes me a highly gifted intellectual which I find insulting. |

Yes but it wouldnt be tit for tat would it? Trump is saying that if European car companies build cars in Mexico then he will put a 35% tax on them. The tat for Trumps tit would be to tax cars imported to Europe from the US ...which probably can be counted in the hundreds.

I agree PS. I was tested twice, and couldn't believe it when they told me. Hence, the reason for second test. Funny how it changed my world. One minute I was just one of those people working on machines or in stores, the next I found opportunities opened up that I never believe possible at the time. Couldn't make my mind what career to choose. Ended up being enrolled in college and university only to pursue a career that possessed no such courses in Australia at the time (software research & development, self taught, the hard way - trial by error). Somewhere along the line it hit me. I was only as good as my interest and information would take me. That is, I totally agree with you. You cannot measure a persons IQ, though some like to say you can with others basing what opportunities you gain on such scores. The world is full of opportunities for those who possess the interest and take the time to learn. |

Naturally like Trump and despite being in the top 5% intelligence wise you didn't read the sub text, car making like many other major industry is interconnected with components coming from all parts of the globe, suggesting that you ban certain makers from selling in your country is liable to hit not just the intended target but your own domestic suppliers as well, it may well be easier for foreign carmakers to say sod this we'll only source from friendly nations, and yes people will still want to buy premium cars. Ring a bell bloke from Swindon?

I will leave the clever stuff to businessmen like you. However , when you leave the ' I know more about the world ' bollocks and get back to common sense trump is saying that if bmw wants to assemble their cars in Mexico instead of the US he wants to put an extra tax on them. First of all you misunderstood the subtext by claiming booting US car companies out of Europe would be the equivalent of Trumps threats. When you we shown to be wrong you included me in the mensa cock waving..wrong again. Then you posted some drivel about banning certain makes of cars...which Trump did not threaten to do. So once, twice, three times a loser. If you are seriously saying that Europe would boot US car manufacturers out of Europe in response to the US adding tariffs on cars made in Mexico instead of Detroit then you are a worse case than I thought. |

Exactly. How are the US going to kick out US based car producers then? If you are going to post this BS then maybe you should think it through. The EU is not going to kick out ford or Vauxhall and it is not going to put higher taxes on European products in Europe is it? |

Quite likely significant parts of the EU would just love Trump to try a transatlantic trade war. How long do you think he'd last if Microsoft, Twitter, Face Book, Coca Cola, Pepsi and of course Apple had their products embargoed? |

If the EU banned Facebook there would be blood on the streets You are falling into the same trap as Tigger. Trump is saying that he will put an extra tariff on cars from EU carmakers who build factories in Mexico when they could build them in the US. The EU would not ban all US products because of this..get a grip. |

Well he did say BMWs but he clearly meant all European manufacturers. Personally I think the car manufacturers will find a compromise with Trump. Probably agreeing to stop investing in Mexico in the long term for huge US government subsidies...something like that

My IQ when last measured was nowhere near 140, 130, was <120. But the most interesting thing in this quoted post is
It's aptitude, the ability to envision how use knowledge and acquire as much as is required to succeed. To learn what you need (or envision) that which you can use. On the larger scale, it equates to 'potential'. The potential for any one person or country to outperform expectations (economically) rests on how well it uses resources - knowledge is power ---- if it is applied properly. |

Yes I'm aware of all that, the thing is the EU has teeth, it can retaliate in kind if the US goes down this route, keep in mind it successfully took the US to the WTO in 2002 and stopped the US Government subsidizing it's aircraft manufacturers. Also Trump would have to penalise ALL foreign made/imported cars, not just those coming via Mexico, this would course enormous problems right across the auto industry, basically it's a non starter in the form Trump is framing it, it's probably being done to impress Bob and Jeb who voted for him. Thing is..Trump promised it. If he doesnt deliver this at least he is finished. I think that the European car makers will capitulate before it gets to a full trade war. I also think that Trump will squeeze the EU nuts over NATO. I know that they are different organisations but really they arent. The EU has everything to lose in a trade war with the US . |

But the EU does not have a trade deal with USA. Fact is, it had a lot of problems just getting one with Canada with the trade deal with NZ on the rocks at present. A post Brexit UK would not have that problem, and their are many countries that had already publically stated they wanted to have a trade deal with UK. |

The fact of the matter is the bilateral trade between the US/EU dwarfs any other trading arrangement currently in force, can you tell me how this is possible without out a trade agreement? No links to Popcorn or excessive use of rolleyes please, hint check the EU's official website.

Easy, the world has access to single market, and no country on the planet need be an EU member state to have such access. That includes USA, China, Japan, and even a post Brexit UK. |

Yup, Trump is against free trade and is heading in the direction of protectionism, which incidentally is what the EU often gets accused of by certain people on here! And then stuck between the two is the UK bleating about free trade! What could possibly go wrong!
