Turkey / Netherlands; Nasty language.

The spat between Turkey and the Netherlands has led to some very nasty comments by Erdogan. It seems that Erdogan wants more power and control in Turkey and sees the actions by the Dutch (and Germans) as a stumbling block in his ambitions.

Judging by the comments by Erdogan I would think he is not fit to have any power, authority or control anywhere.

"They are Nazi remnants, they are fascists," Erdogan said, days after he angrily compared moves to block rallies in Germany to "Nazi practices".
Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte called Erdogan's remark comparing the Dutch to the Nazis "crazy".

I don't know what the fuss is about?..with or without the Dutch/Turkish vote..I am sure that Erdogan will win again..A bit like Putin?

The Eu has thrown millions..(billions?) at them to stop illegal immigrants setting across the Med from Turkey?

So now they set off from North Africa...where the Italian navy..pick them up..bring them to Europe..thus causing more problems..all these people are making their way to Northern France..in the hope that they can get HERE!!!

More like Putin than is comfortable. Erdogan may be preparing for a bit of a showdown with the EU and is trying to spread anti EU propaganda .
Actually that's a bit like the West is doing to Russia...... :rubchin:

And that in itself does not bother me one bit Mary, what does bother me is the EU's inability/reluctance to control the movement of immigrants and France which cannot be quick enough in getting them to their northern shores.

It is well past the time that our Government grew a "pair" and installed a very robust border agency in place.

Apparently Donald Tusk has called Erdogan "Detached from reality". Well.. by implication, anyway.

That's pretty strong language for a diplomat/head-of-state.

So is the adjective of "diplomat" where Tusk is concerned....he is just as ill mannered and gaffe prone as is Boris. ;-)

PS, I'll not disagree with his description of Erdogan.

I must agree..Turkey does appear to have delusions of grandeur...even though their human rights is appalling..They realise they hold the key on whether to flood migrants into Europe..or not?

Yup... and they've just threatened to use that key MB.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-39294776

In addition, he has accused the European Courts of undertaking a "Crusade against Islam" because it ruled that employers CAN ban the wearing of ALL religious symbols by their staff. Note that this means ALL symbols; they can't ban symbols or clothing from any specific religion. But no.. that's a "Crusade against Islam".

Erdogen is starting to sound more and more like the Iranian Ayatollahs, perhaps indicating the direction he wants to steer his country in.

I think Turkey was the most un-Islamic country I have been to...Go go boys..standing on podiums in the street..shaking their kebabs..Men dressed as women belly dancers..Bacon and pork is freely available..And they like their booze...They even have gay pride marches...

Not sure whether that is still the case Marybrown ?
The gay marches are banned. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jun/17/istanbul-transgender-gay-pride-marches-ban-alperen-hearths

Pork is not banned, but is increasingly regarded as socially unacceptable, and is harder and harder to find.
https://munchies.vice.com/en_us/article/inside-the-last-pork-butcher-shop-in-istanbul

Turkey is sliding into the morass of Islamic Fundamentalism.

I think you are probably right on the "Islamic Fundamentalism" point. At least it will ensure they will not gain entry into the EU. All we need now is for them to exit NATO, and we can leave them to fry in their own fundamentalism.

My understanding of Turkey is that it is roughly split between the Islam hard liners and Muslim secularists. Don't know if that is correct.

Maybe in Istanbul..but I saw a very lively gay parade in Marmaris last year..

Pork was becoming increasingly difficult to get..however they got over this by announcing it was ''wild boar''

But once again..I found that the Turkish men were more interested in the tourists squids..than Islam..

We've had time and enough money and yet Turkey has never made the shortlist of places to see. Loads of people say it used to be very good until that shit stirring nut Erdogan got in and still is away from Ankara.

Nope. Spent a week on.a lovely hotel on top of a large building. That was ok. It was when you went not of it
A complete shit hole full of predatory knob heads.
We were even warned that in no circumstances should we become friendly with the staff. We were told that they may ask.us to go somewhere with them where it was likely that we would be sexually attacked. The rep said that the same thing applied to women or men.
The next night two Scottish women prison officers went out on a date with a couple of waiters.

God..you are such a scaredy cat..I've always found that ''fuck off'' works??

Do you not think that was a ploy by your hotel..so you would be too afraid to go out..therefore spending all your money in the hotel??
