Listening to any answers today on radio 4 (after listening to any questions) I learn that only yesterday, Angela Merkel who is very strongly against gay marriages. In order to try and secure her election later on in the Autumn, she has has to seek the help of minor parties and has agreed not to stand in the way of any legislation to enable gay marriages to take place. I use the above to illustrate the point that sometimes, political leaders have to do some distasteful things in order to stay in power and to carry through their policies. Personally speaking, gay marriages do not bother me at all, but I am still of the opinion that a mans bits are meant to fit nice and snugly into a womans bits. |

I think the Germans might be beating us at democracy these days as well, Merkel has been called by some in the English language press the new leader of the free World........ Democracy can be termed the will of the majority but with respect for minorities or those with minority opinions, some of that seems to be missing here in the UK at the moment. Personally I tend to find ignorant bigots more distateful than people with garbled chromosomes...... Edited by Tigger, Jul 1 2017, 09:08 PM.

Yes, it was pretty distasteful of her to oppose gay marriage, this is the 21st century after all. All The Best |

So let me get this right? You are lauding as "leader of the free world" an ignorant bigot who opposes gay marriage? Merkel thinks gay marriage is wrong, however like all "good" politicians she is prepared to surrender her convictions for another pull on the level or power. If that had been a British MP you'd have been castigating them right off the bat. All The Best |

^ Perhaps this is why the Germans keep electing this woman? Personally I don't like so called conviction politicians, they are a sort of lost cause type who cannot overcome their numerous hang ups, you know who we are talking about here, Thatcher, Pol Pot, Hitler etc, they are convinced they are right and if everyone just does what they are told things will be fine! It seems to me that Merkel the Christian has put her opposition to gay marriage to one side as most others in the country see no problem with it, that is one of those sensible compromises we were talking about earlier on another thread, wasn't it? Back here in the UK we have some comprmisers of our own now in government, the burn in hell you fags DUP! Edited by Tigger, Jul 2 2017, 10:43 PM.

Yeah, we need more politicians stuck in the 1940's thinking gay marriage is wrong, but willing to take a political bribe to look the other way. Would make the country so much better don't you think? And why would you be naive enough to vote for a politician with no convictions? You'd vote form them based on them advocating X, and because they have no political convictions you'd stand a good change of getting "Not X". That's not very clever at all. All political leaders have convictions. The problem for voters is that their stated political conviction usually hides a very different ideology! What they say they stand for, 'fairness', 'society', 'one nation', hides their being none of these but precisely the opposite. |
