Notice how well kept American road surfaces are kept in comparison to ours.

I could cycle faster than that!
No Adrenalin rush on that leisurely meander.

Leisure being the important word, no one mentioned a race, but of course you just had to make a contrary remark didn't you?

They are very well kept compared to the potholes sparsely connected by bits of tarmac that pass for roads where I live.
(It is why I have a 2006 retro version of 1955 500cc trials bike, anything else would fall to bits.)

Since I recently retired I've still not been able to devote enough time to my many hobbies, in fact I've spent less time doing the things I really enjoy. :-[

I have spent several hours today putting a wood floor in my new shed. I was given a large amount of various lengths of 75mm wide by 12mm thick timber by someone who moved away from the area, so apart from time, sawing, drilling, and countersinking needing about 600 screws it will cost nothing. (I had already put a sheet Sterling board floor in it but as I have some heavy objects to put on the floor it needed beefing up a tad.)

Actually, I was thinking "shit, those roads are in a mess."

My local highways dept had a 1.5 mile stretch of road closed off in bits and bobs for a week or so six months back to do some resurfacing work, and all they did was patch bits here and there.
Local (Parish and County) councils complained vociferously about the degree of disruption for so little actual improvement to the road surface.

So just last week they closed it off - overnight this time - for a few nights and resurfaced the whole stretch.

Looks like a brand new, unused road compared to the cracked and uneven surface in the clip you posted.

All The Best

That is exactly the sort of thing I will now avoid doing after thirty odd years in the trade! ;D

I will now pay others to do it for me!

Finding "someone to do it," is very difficult where I live, (at least anyone who is competent,) which is why I reluctantly do far more Destroy It Yourself than I like.

It may be so "De rigeur" it stinks of cheese but there's a motorbike repair shop about 200 miles from the Pacific end of route 66 and so help me I bloody well WILL hire one of theirs and do a chunk of that road as a bucket list item even if it ends up as my last !!

The video reminded me of the police instructor High performance club car outing on the hairpins they filmed the Italian job... I came close to taking the S-Max on that but thought better of it.

They had about ten honda goldwings as well as the Harley's about six months ago, a mate of mine who got headhunted to Florida took a fortnight off to "do 66" and he did a deal with them.

I tried one of those a few years ago, the main issue I had was being shit scared of the embarrassment if I dropped it and couldn't pick it up....

As you can imagine they have a brisk trade with people hiring from them and dropping off at one of the two bike places a way down the road to save you bringing it back. Most of the clientele want an HD so I'm hoping saying I've ridden one of THESE ... pointing to the

(I'm assuming Moira will be able to drive the monster gas guzzler I'm gonna hire to "do" this for that bit ...)
