Well what an anticlimax.

Scan the paper pink and green driving licence, scan the front page of the passport, say cheese for my webcam and I've got all i need to apply for my 60+ bus pass.

The application form was a doddle to find and fill in. Apart from the phone number, it refused to accept any of my mobile numbers, so I 've given them the phone number of the Ankh Morpork Embassy in Wincanton.

No wonder Wales needs so much subsidy. You have to be 65 here and that will go up soon

If you take a look at the availability of buses you can ride, you'll VERY quickly find this is little more than a device to get doddery buggers out of their cars in the cities, doing for Cardiff Newport and Swansea what the congestion charge does for London without having to spend gazillions on bribing the likes of Accenture to write you an overblown IT system and have an army of maintainers keeping the cameras from fining Monmouthshire Combine Harvester Owners for driving their combine over Tower Brodge when in fact it's not been off the farm in years.

My next door neighbour at No 4 gave up his licence and sold his car (fiesta) with barely any miles on it 5 years ago.....come this November he will be getting a telegram from her majesty Queen Elizabeth the second....he makes me laugh as when he talks to me his top plate keeps falling and his words are not clear to the ear.....he is a lovely and still agile old codger and I would do anything for him, his wife and their spinster daughter who despite being a senior citizen has never (to my knowledge) seen what is down below regarding the male anatomy. ;D

They are all three of them very avid baptist church adherents.

Whatever makes THEM tick is good enough for me, we need more neighbours like them.

Rich - What makes them tick, IMHO, is a kind of inner peace and tranquility, that persists, even though much of the world around is in increasing chaos and turmoil. It is something that according to a certain 'good book' - 'passeth all [human] understanding'. :rubchin:

You are lucky when I first applied for a bus pass it was more of a rigmarole than when I got a positively vetted security clearance back in the day.

Really inner peace and tranquillity - yes maybe for the old parents that likely can't understand the modern world and still remember days when cars were rare. But I think it is sad for a daughter that sounds like she is still living with mum and dad and has not stated to live yet. Children need to find their own way in life and embrace new ideas, without which there would be no future for mankind and we would still be living in caves, and not to know sex and love of a non parent kind. IMHO I think it is sad. I do wonder where some of the members of this site are coming from.

resurrecting thread after a fascinating conversation with the council ...

My free bus pass has not arrived. The website says it should have some within 14 days, that was some time ago.

It seems the council ignore your application until the week before your birthday, and will strive to get it to you the day before, or on the day.

Which, given the post here never arrives until 2pm, means too bloody late for me to enjoy my rightful entitlement.

Presumably they do this to prevent you fraudulently using it before you are entitled. What Untrustworthy buggers us old farts must be.

On a more upbeat note, I had a long chat with a very nice lady in a darkened room yesterday

... She bent forward, looked into my eyes ...

... then opened fire with a stabbing light from what felt like a plasma torch from hell

And declared the retinal detachments in both eyes to be sorted. The strange visual effects I see with the naked eye are entirely down to astigmatism, and her magic machine corrected it and got me pin-sharp resolution down to 20/20 and further in **BOTH** eyes. I collect the new glasses nest week. A shame thought hat buying glasses from specsavers is like buying flights from ryanair...

Damn, I really will have to take up golf now, I will be able to see where the ball's gone

You are lucky the process of getting a bus pass here in Cornwall involves more checks that I had to be authorised as civilian to carry loaded firearms on a military base.

But unless you're under 13 stone and 5ft 6 you'll find it very uncomfortable.
