Below is the address in transcript given by Jean Claude Juncker re: the state of the EU 2017.

It's a good speech and quite edifying.

As for my own personal view.

"Non je ne regrette rien"

(I do not regret anything)

A Bee Gees song springs to mind:-

Talk in everlasting words
And dedicate them all to me
And I will give you all my life
I'm here if you should call to me

You think that I don't even mean
A single word I say

It's only words, and words are all I have
To take your heart away

His megalomania is one of the reasons we want to distance ourselves from the EU

He wants an empire with him at the helm.....we didn't sign up for that

Not much different to Theresa May acting more like a monarch than a prime minister.

Except that she has no aspiration to be president of the EU unlike Blair, I believe that May does indeed have the best interests of the UK at heart and she has my full backing.....in fact I would say she is a woman of integrity and will not be deterred from her course of action unless removed from office.

Is that tongue in cheek?

Not at all Papa, she is the only politician with the nous to get us the best deal......or no deal, I am not bothered which.....but that is just my own opinion and will probably differ from yours and most others.

This is the key sentence

"And today, we are proposing to open trade negotiations with Australia and New Zealand."

Juncker may be an odious piss head with few friends but here's the thing: he knows the world with money would rather do deals with the EU-27 than the UK

And after over a year of juvenile offensive comments by Boris etc he is determined to play his strong hand to humiliate those that share Boris's table.

as has been said above, the man is a euro-megalomaniac.

he demands more integration, a single president, a single chancellor of the exchequer.

he clearly understands it is the only way to get the european superstate to work, but as has been said above, this is exactly why I voted to leave.

It wouldn't happen in his lifetime anyway.

I honestly believe our descendants will scratch their heads in disbelief at the outcome of the referendum.

Thank you Rich, for posting the direct link to Juncker's speech, and not anything from the British media, which is almost always opinionated, distorted, or highlights the negative, rather than the plain truth.

Personally, I don't see much in his speech that I would disagree with. History shows that the UK was never fully committed to the EEC/EU vision, and now that Brexit is to occur "the fly in the ointment" is leaving, so to see the EU speak of further unity is not unexpected.

As to EU trading negotiations and FTAs with Australia, and New Zealand, these have been proposed some time ago, and informally are ongoing.
Both Australia and New Zealand, will eventually, negotiate at least current trade with the UK. It's the uncertainty of the final EU-UK trading relationship that is delaying those proposed agreements.

I'm more interested in the "we will only trade with those who embrace our principles"

More bollix of using the single European market as as a straitjacket for political control

"we will only trade with those who embrace our principles"

With the free movement of people at the heart of that Europe will sink under the weight of immigrants.

And Europe is far larger than the UK, just imagine what would happen to this country if we allowed uncontrolled immigration to continue unfettered.?

The only way we could control it was to leave, the referendum result made that clear.

There is little sign of that actually happening though.

Well, I suppose now that those who have always laughed at the suggestion that the end game of the EU was always a United States of Europe, with centralised control of everything, will have to recognise that they were wrong.

But they won't, of course.

Well if you can find in that speech just where it says anything to back that belief of yours then maybe.

Feel free to quote the text you believe supports it.
