IMO, if we want the rest of the world to buy goods stamped with "made in Britain" again then we have to produce quality goods that will last and will be sought after for their longevity and reliability. Have a watch of this short You tube vid to get the gist of my meaning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_Hn0LHXXBQ&t=29s Edited by Rich, Sep 18 2017, 11:48 PM.

Well, okay, I'll accept your comment on that, but compared to the time it takes to read some of the links that you your good self put up, I still say that it is just a "short vid", No offence meant Papa, and I hope, none taken, hopefully a split from this thread will now disappear into cybersphere. My apologies if my comments have upset you. Regards....Rich.

The difference is, your thread opener give no context. When I post a link it is usually about a very serious issue that cannot be explained in a few sentences or a short copy and paste. Also especially with anything to do with government data sets and commissioned research it really is necessary to read it all, or you end up with the same crap that Daily Mail journalists write because they only read the first two paragraphs. Most of the crap that gets thrown at me on the forum is because people refuse to do some work, they think complex issues can be explained with a few sound bites. Getting knowledge is hard work. |

Alas, I am not the best Techie in the world Papa, which means my search for knowledge is limited as to where I go for the truth, one can google or wiki all day long.....but how does one know who exactly tells the full picture. Hence my avatar......professional cynic.

Point taken. I have a German made washing machine, bought around 2005, it needed two carbon brushes replaced in Nov. 2015. That is all the repair it has required. It is and has been in constant use, and it is still in full working order. One problem that seems to be the case is that the UK makes very little if anything of the mass produced stuff these days. |

Didn't watch the vid but I agree on the need to kickstart a manufacturing revival, but whilst we have a Tory or Neo liberal government there there is virtually no chance of that happening because the Tories are basically short termist wankers who are more interested in pumping up land and property prices and manipulating the money suppy, the only time these tossers take any notice of manufacturing is when they give the nod to enrich shareholders by selling off our few remaining globally known manufacturers! (mini rant over). Can you see the current crop of right wing free market political lightweights doing what Germany did two decades ago and offer austerity in return for the updating of the manufacturing base? We've had our dose of austerity and blow yet another asset bubble, *****! |
