Personally, I have some issues believing this as stated, for if true at face value as printed, we've all been conned. Hands up if you remember those car insurers who offered you dirt cheap cover because they employed a room full of hagglers whose job it was to deny your claim if you had bought and hung one of those air fresheners on your rear view mirror as this was deemed to be a modificaion of the car from the manufacturer's standard specification. Look to me like travel insurance is heading the same way, which given the cut-throat nature of the business, doesn't surprise me I tripped over This article from a clickable link in something I browsed It seems the chap was severely injured while somewhat the worse for drink and there is some concern his insurer wont pay up on the grounds "there was alcohol in his system" at the time of the accident. What's that supposed to mean ? That he was a drunk driver ? Or was he staggering from pub to pub ?? Or did he buy his holiday insurance from the Islamic Travel Channel ?? |

Well JOG, insurance companies are very quick to divest you of your monies....that is business, and of course, in the good old days and assessor would come round to say yea or nay. But now, what with cutting employees to save costs, that is done over the internet or telephone/mobile. So in order to make sure that they still meet their profit margins they use as an excuse a "general" coverage system which goes up every year (regardless of how long you have been and remained loyal to them and probably never claimed) so what does one do? I would like to know if insurance companies insure themselves with other insurance companies just in case? If not, why not, and if they do, why do premiums rise every year? |

That is an individuals choice and is okay by me as long as they do not drive or upset/offend other mild mannered folks, if they do end up in clink then I have no sympathy whatsoever. |

Now that made me take notice! Yes indeed, the business of business is to make money for investors. It's all consuming, and methods to do so often result in the service/product being downgraded whilst their cost/charges go up. There's nothing wrong in making a profit! The wrong comes when profits are extensive ---- high above inflation. Then it is profiteering.

My wife and I's travel insurance is part of our household contents insurance and also includes repatriation cover in the case of injury or illness. (Repatriation insurance is VERY important because it can easily cost £20000 just to get repatriated from Europe.) Then there is the uncertainty of Brexit. Being ratarsed/drugged nullifies a lot of insurance cover in the UK as well. Could well end up with full comp defaulting to third party. |

Yep I really can't see why the sensible of us should have to pay extra premiums for holiday cover just so the nutters can go bonkers abroad and still be covered on standard insurance But then I'd confiscate the passports of those seeking to do wild stag nights abroad |

That would damage Ryanair somewhat. (Oh dear, how sad, never mind.) |
