Here's a thing to chew over, top shelf in a public house, personally, I have never been a lover of spirits and when given a bottle at xmas would very quickly give it away as it was worthless to me. Today, my elder sister who is married to a man who does not have long to live, dropped by to see my wife who was at home on her lunch break, she left a 70 cl bottle of whisky for me with a note attached. My brother in law and sister are very very very well off. I thought this strange as I do not touch top shelf alcohol. When I got home, I examined the receptacle and found the most interesting item within the gift bag. Now to go back further, my BiL father was an investment banker and upon his demise several years ago, all his assets were passed on to my sisters husband who was already a multi millionaire....(good luck to him) Upon examaning the bottle of said whisky and the very definitive label upon the 70 cl bottle, it transpired that the father way back in 1991 had ordered a hogshead barrel of single malt highland whisky to be kegged up and left until such time as his son saw fit to have the contents bottled. It was bottled in January 2017. Now a hogshead holds 64 gallons, and an oak barrel and it's contents maturing for 26 years is going to produce a most titillating taste and this, according to the label was done at "Tomatin" distillery. I wonder what has become of the other 414 bottles. This I can assure you will only be brought out for discerning guests. One never knows what is going to happen next. |

Pity he hadn't ordered a hogshead of Laphroaig in 1977. A single bottle of THAT vintage is worth £2,500!!! |
