I applied to renew my passport online on 07/11/2017 at 14:46 hours. A courier has just delivered my new passport just now 13/11/2017 at 13.50 hours.

The only problem I had was getting a photograph that was acceptable to the online system. The only device we have to take a picture with is an ancient LG Tablet my wife "wombled," some time ago. In the end a picture taken with my neighbour's garage wall as background passed muster.

I found it a lot easier by going to my local Tesco where they have people in their photo-printing area who can use a camera and know exactly what the rules are such as no glasses, no smile, look straight into the camera, neutral background, correct size and so on.

Well worth a fiver.

That is no good for an online application. (Which gives you all the instructions.) Plus there is no such assistance or photo printing area at the Tesco where I live.

You can have the digital version transferred to your phone. You don't HAVE to take the print.

Not to my phone I can't. It is a very ancient Nokia that I "Wombled" out of a skip many years ago. It only functions as a phone.

But not possible where I live. The online application and uploading a digital photo was a lot quicker and far cheaper.

There are plenty of places that offer the 'approved' service in Cornwall. Not hard to look.

No doubt that you were fortunate that your home-made photo fell within the regulations, which are very strict.

This time of year I have no doubt that applications are light.

Hence you got a speedy return.

Not near me there aren't, I checked before I went down the do-it-yourself route.

 a result. Sadly good news like that rarely gets reported in the media so many people get the enduring impression that they take months etc etc.

Somebody I know was arranging a family holiday abroad at great expense. With a week to go one of the less than bright invitees admitted they hadn't got a valid passport not realising that would be an issue nor wanting to do owt about it. The Passport Office fixed it with a day turnaround.

I have to admit to being impressed with auto photo cropping and checking the new system uses.

The wife of one of my Wednesday drinking buddies works at the Newport passport office.

The identity and passport service rightly came in for a good kicking a while back for multiple cludterfycjs and deliberate policy decisions designed to fuck the tourist off. Like the rearrangement of their prioritization and the refusal to accept personally presented applications without a whopping service fee.

I have no idea what the workload is like now.

I understand most remosners are making life hard for her French, German and Irish counterparts these past months....
