Knoxville, TN -- Tony Miranda was on top of the world. He came out firing in the UWL, making short work of his opponents in his debut. He gave a hell of a fight in the Jr Heavyweight Invitational of 2014, later won by Ryan Kidd. Tony got his revenge though. At Slamboree '14 he captured the UWL Junior Heavyweight Championship from Kidd in an instant classic. It seemed like Tony Miranda couldn't be stopped.

Then came GIW: On Hallowed Grounds.

In a Buried Alive match, Tony Miranda was just that, buried alive by bitter rival, Jack Waters. And just like that, it was over.

Due to legal reasons, the UWL couldn't step in as it concerns the UWL Championship, but now that the allotted time between defenses has passed, and still no word from the champion, UWL Officials have no choice but to strip Tony Miranda of the UWL Jr. Heavyweight Championship.

"This is an unfortunate event," said UWL Chairman, Kevin Hill via Skype. "We all really liked Tony, as did the fans of the United Wrestling League. But the illustrious title deserves a holder. It deserves the battles. And so do our fans. So the championship is officially vacant as of today."

Hill did not specify when a new champion will be crowned, nor did he name any top contenders. When asked about that, he responded, "We're weighing our options, and looking at worthy contenders. That's all I can really say right now."

We'll keep you posted.
