A guide to Ultimate Sim Baseball:

Getting Started -

Start by either creating a player, by clicking the Players link, or by clicking the Teams link to create your own team.

Players -

Creating a player will allow you to have your own big leaguer, honing his skills and gunning for bigger contracts, MVPs, and league championships. On the player page, you will see Name, which is where you can enter your player's soon to be famous name. Team, which will start out blank until a team offers you a contract(and you accept).

Points is how you increase your skills and learn new positions. Strength represents your player's physical strength. Speed is your foot speed in relation to other players. Throwing speed measures how fast you throw a baseball, while throwing accuracy is how accurate your throws are. Discipline measures your approach at the plate, with high discipline netting fewer swings at bad pitches. Fielding represents the player's ability to field his position on the field. Last, fame shows the popularity of your player.

Increasing any of these attributes costs one point. The minimum value is one, and there is no maximum, although a well rounded player has a better chance of success.

Positions represent the fielding positions your player knows. A player can play an unfamiliar position, but this comes with an increased chance of making a mistake. Learning a new position costs 5 points.

When done distributing your points, click the Save button.

Player Contracts -

Players start off without a team. Teams created by other users(or by you) must offer your player a contract before you can play in any games. When your player has a contract offer, you will be notified both on the home page and by the View Contract Offers button being enabled on the player page.

Teams -

Anyone can create a team, for free, and you can create as many teams as you want. Start by entering a team name. The Year To Date Revenue shows your teams revenue produced this season. Revenue is important when signing free agents and making trades. The Yearly Salary field shows the teams projected salary, while Cash represents the cash reserve your team has built for itself. Its possible to have negative Cash, meaning your team is indebted to investors, but that will hamper any transactions you make. Team Philosophy, Hitting Philosophy, and Pitching Philosophy allow you to customize your team's actions. The more aggressive you are, the better the chance of making a great play(home run, stolen base, etc...) while also increasing the chance of a bad play(strikeout, caught stealing, etc...). The players grid shows the players currently on your roster. You can have a maximum number of players(25), shown by the roster limit field. Click the Add Free Agent button to offer a contract to a free agent player(created by another user, although it is OK to sign your own player to your team). If you are low on cash, or are having a hard time signing free agents, you can click Add Minor Leaguer, to add a generic replacement level player to any position on your team. These players are cheap, expendable, and not much else. Use them when starting out to build up cash, or to fill specific holes on your team. Relying on them too much over the long run will make it tougher to win games.

Release player will allow you to release a selected player, there is no players union in Ultimate Sim Baseball, so all contracts are guaranted. If a player isnt producing, or a better player at the same position has caught your eye, you may release a player at any time. View player lets you see the stats of any player on your roster, though you will not be able to adjust that player's skills(unless the player is one you created, of course).

Set lineup will allow you to assign starters and set roles for your pitchers. Its important to set your lineup often to make sure your are optimizing your players. Join league will let you join a any available public league, or a private league if you have been given a password.

Propose trade allows you to propose trades to other teams in your league(you cannot trade with other teams created by yourself), while the view pending trades button will be enabled should you have any outstanding requests(incoming and outgoing).

Leagues -

To create a league simply click on the Create a League button. This will let you name your league and make it either public or private. A public league means any team can join, while private leagues let you control access via a password. In addition to letting human players join your league, if you need a team or two to fill out your league, use the Add Computer Team button. This will add a team of replacement level players to compete against you. Delete league will let you delete your league if your decide(leagues cannot be deleted once a game is played). Update schedule is used to update the league schedule after new teams are added. Play this week's games lets the league creator play the games scheduled for the first unplayed week. After the games are played, the standings are updated and the schedule will show the game scores and a View link to see the game details.

Notes/rules about Ultimate Sim Baseball:

1) You cannot trade with teams also created by yourself. Anyone caught doing this will lose control of their teams.

2) You are more than welcome to create multiple teams, as long as they play independently of each other.

3) You are also welcome to create players and sign them to your team.

4) There is no such thing as a "No trade clause", unless its on the honor system of the recruiting GM. No crying if you get traded anyway, I'm not here to police morals and ethics of the baseball world. If you feel it was truly egregious, then post your story and let your peers decide the merits of your case.

5) Good luck and have fun!
