As the Presidential jet began its final approach, President John Mellor took a moment to look out the window and appreciate the looming landscape. He had visited countless places in his lifetime, but New Vancouver always stood out in his mind as one of his favorite places to visit. Just then, an aide broke his moment of reflection to say that they had landed. Once the plane came to a halt and the staircase began to descend, John straightened his tie, took a deep breath, and walked outside.

As the sun best down on her, Prime Minister Pauline Clarke stood perfectly still. Being calm, she had learned, was an essential trait among politicians. And anyone in her situation would have had difficulty being calm. She had won the leadership of a faltering party, and now stood at the head of a shaky government that was hammered day in and day out by the Opposition benches. Conservative Leader Eric Cameron continued to pin point any of the discrepancies that showed on the governments record. Every step the Prime Minister took was scrutinized by her Conservative opponents and by the press. So far, she had done well. Her iron clad will allowed her to begin the process of whipping the party into shape, but the long question was whether she could do it in time for the next election.

Slowly walking down the steps, her dark blue pant suit allowed for far greater mobility than a normal pencil skirt. Around her clustered many of her cabinet, including Justice Minister Peter Hill, and Minister of Transport Alexandra Jerome.

The Presidential plane finally landed, and Clarke took the long walk to the tarmac. As President Mellor began to step down the stairs, she took a deep breath and extended a hand.

"Mr. President, welcome to New Vancouver."

John took a second to allow his eyes to adjust to the sunlight. As he descended the staircase, he took a breath of the fresh New Vancouver air and smiled to himself, remembering all of his favorite spots in the city.

Once he stepped foot on the tarmac, President Mellor returned his focus to the matter at hand and walked over to Prime Minister Clarke. He shook her outstretched hand, a large grin on his face. "Madam Prime Minister, it's a real pleasure. Thank you again for the invitation. I always look forward to visiting your lovely nation."

"The pleasure is mine," Clarke says, hiding her troubles behind a sure smile. "It's always good to have you in our great nation. Please, if you would follow me."

As the pair walked up the tarmac, the Prime Minister allowed her brain to unleash itself. Her fears of the results of the UA, the new threat the Progressive Party poses, and the loss of her majority. Ever since Kathy Graham resigned, Franconian politics had been remarkably unstable.

As they approached the car, two aides opened the doors for the two leaders.
"Our first stop will be Parliament hill, where we might have a few surprises in store for you."

Mellor smiled widely. "I always look forward to visiting the Parliament building. Lead the way." As the gathered officials made their way to the motorcade, John looked over to the Prime Minister. "Speaking of surprises and Parliament, it seems that you've had quite a few these last few days, to put it mildly."

"You can say that again," the Prime Minister said, stepping into the awaiting car. "Some people say I have united the left and provided a unified force against right wingers. Others say I destroyed one of the oldest and most successful parties in Franconia, and allowed them to merge with their mortal rivals. Whatever is the truth, I simply hope history will view me kindly."

The Prime Minister looked out the window, as the motorcade lead down the well travelled Government Boulevard. Ahead, the Parliament buildings came into distant view.

"Sometimes I envy the presidential system. Not having to sit in the House, not having to answer to the Opposition and their nit picking Leader. But our democracy is enshrined in our blood, and our system the system I will always believe in."

President Mellor paused for a moment, searching for the right words. "The way I see it, you adapted to better serve the people of your nation. I have a soft spot in my heart for history and tradition, but there comes a time where things must change. Your party should only care about what the people need. And, not to be too cynical, I suspect the Conservatives aren't as outraged as they claim. It sounds to me that they're trying to take advantage of the situation to gain ground in Parliament."

"Well thats politics isnt it?"
The Prime Minister chuckled. The great dome of the Parliament buildings now loomed over head, and the car stopped just short of the main entry way. Reporters flocked on either side of a great red carpet leading up to the carved oaken doors. Soldiers of the Imperial Guard stood ready, sabres drawn at the entrance.

"After you, Mr. President."

President Mellor smiled and exited the vehicle. He made his way across the carpet towards the building, pausing frequently to shake hands and speak with the gathered crowds. In between, he quietly recited the names of four MPs whose names he forgot the last time he was in country. John prided himself on remembering the names of government officials throughout the region, so he was mildly embarrassed that he had forgotten their names in the first place. Finally, the procession made its way inside.

Though he attempted to maintain his composure, John couldn't help but marvel at the architecture of the Parliament building. The history of the place and its construction always left him in awe. As he neared their destination, he returned his focus ahead.

At last, the delegation made its way to the chambers of Parliament. President Mellor took a breath, straightened his tie, and waited to enter.

As the great oaken doors of Parliament stood before them, the Prime Minister fondly remembered the first time she had stood here. Despite the building itself having been constructed in 1854, Parliament had held meetings here since 1390, in a series of other buildings, each destroyed one way or another. This gate was all that remained of the original building. Realizing that it was these doors King Michael XIII had shattered when he tried to sieze Parliament in 1538, and that his successors architects swiftly pieced them back together. These Doors that stood against the Armies of the Ottoman Sultan in the 1400s. These doors that the Earl of Oxbridge had locked, starving the entire House of Commons to death in the great rebellion of 1394. Thankfully the interior of the chambers were new, else the morbidity of that event may have hujg over the chamber.

Two Imperial Guards stood to attention as the Prime Minister and the President stepped forward. The Captain of the Parliamentary Guard Corps smiled, and opened the great doors with a resounding creak. The pair entered, as MPs from both sides of the aisles rose and began to applaud. Eric Cameron and his Conservatives smiled and laughed kindly, as did the Progressives under Peter Hill. Each Party Leader nodded as they made eye contact with the President. The Liberal Democratic Caucus was however, the most jubilant, with Kathy Graham smiling from her seat, and nodding deeply as President Mellor went by.

Finally, the clapping ceased, and the Speaker of the House, Robert Lalonde stepped forward.

"Honorable members, honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen. Today, we welcome a man to our Chamber. A Man that has lead our greatest ally for as long as many of us can remember. Over the course of our nation's history, we have never had such a special relationship, or such a fruitful Partnership. Today, we are truly honored to welcome President Mellor of Killadonia!"

Applause resumed as the Speaker smiled at the the President, and invited him to the Podium.
