As the Presidential jet began its final approach, President John Mellor took a moment to look out the window and appreciate the looming landscape. He had visited countless places in his lifetime, but New Vancouver always stood out in his mind as one of his favorite places to visit. Just then, an aide broke his moment of reflection to say that they had landed. Once the plane came to a halt and the staircase began to descend, John straightened his tie, took a deep breath, and walked outside. |

With a small nod to the Speaker, President Mellor approached the podium and began to speak. "Thank you, Speaker Lalonde, and thank you to everyone gathered here today. This is not the first time I have stood here before you and I certainly hope that it's not the last. Since the last time I visited, there have been some truly monumental changes. The Parliament has seen a large-scale restructuring. A few prime ministers have come and gone. We have seen the birth of the Liberal Democratic Party and all of the changes that have followed that. Though many things may be different, there is one fundamental truth about Great Franconia and Verana that has not changed: every member of Parliament still works tirelessly for the good of the people. There have been more than a few tense moments, but at the end of the day, the government has moved forward and carried out the will of the people. I stand here and see many familiar faces, including my dear friend Kathy Graham. Great to see you, Kathy. I also see a lot of people who I haven't had the pleasure of speaking with yet. To my old friends and to my friends that I haven't met yet, I say this: Killadonia and Great Franconia and Verana have always shared a close bond in the past and I fully intend to continue that close relationship into the future. That is my pledge to you and the people of this great nation. It truly is an honor to be here today. Thank you." |

The congregation of MPs stood and clapped, as the President stood down from the podium. Few have spoken before the House of Commons, and many MPs were happy in part due to their involvement in history. The Speaker once more resumed the podium, but before he could speak, three large booms echoed through the chamber. It was the resounding thud of the Chambers door knocker. The MPs turned, and more than on raised an eyebrow. "Clerk, if you would please open the door," Lalonde said, as a small woman scurried room the great gates. As they once more groaned open, a single man walked through, in a suit of black, with britches and a powdered wig. On his shoulder rested a long wooden scepter of dark black wood. "My Lord Black Rod," the Speaker said. "Mr. Speaker," the man said formally, hooked nose giving him the Appearance of an aged hawk. "I have come on behalf of her Majesty room summon the Prime Minister to the Star Chamber." Prime Minister Clarke stood, and motioned for the President to follow. As they followed the Black Rod, the path finally ended at a pair of doors, even more grand than that of the House. Here was emblazoned a great Star, with the coat of arms of the Imperial Family in front of it. It was the Private Imperial Chambers. |

Walking down the ornately designed hallway, President Mellor could barely contain his wonderment. To the best of his knowledge, he had not had the pleasure of visiting this particular section of the building before, so John took the opportunity to look around while maintaining an appropriate level of decorum. Despite his years of experience in the realm of diplomacy, John still found himself a bit nervous as they approached the Imperial Family's chambers. As they stopped directly in front of the doors, he quietly recalled the proper etiquette for the situation at hand. After a moment, satisfied that he remembered all of the pertinent information, John looked to Prime Minister Clarke and their guide. |

Two members of the Imperial Guard turned on a dime, and slowly pushed the great wooden doors wide. A golden light poured from the doorway, as the President and Prime Minister were ushered into a sumptuous room. Gold decor trimmed the wall and ceilings, even as ancient tapestries hung on the walls. The rich carpets were of only the finest import, and the portraits of monarchs gone by hung on every wall. At the very end of the room, with great swathes of red and gold drapery hung about it, sat the Imperial Throne, the manifestation of the Monarchs power upon earth. Sitting quietly, with a soft, grandmotherly smile on her face, was Queen Amelia, a thin silver tiara witting on her head. Her long dress was emblazoned with the royal symbols of all her domain. At her right sat Prince John Charles, and to her left the Prince Imperial Henry, and his wife the Princess Caroline. "After you," Clarke whispered, smiling at the power and symbolism of the Franconian Monarchy. |

President Mellor walked into the well-appointed room, taking confident strides until he was a close yet respectful distance from the Queen. Bowing slightly, he addressed the Queen and the gathered members of the royal family. "Your Majesty, Your Highness, Your Highness, and Your Highness. It is truly an honor to be here today. Thank you for taking the time to receive me." With his head slightly bowed, John was almost thankful for his nervousness; otherwise, he would be too tempted to inspect the magnificent paintings and tapestries. He waited for the Queen to speak, quietly wondering about the history and creators of the gathered works of art. |

The Queen smiled, and stood from her throne. "Please, Mr. President, stand, we are both Heads of State, and are equals here, in private. May I introduced my husband, John Charles, my heir, Henry, and his lovely wife Caroline." John Charles smiled coyly at his wife as he brought forward a long, slim box. "I had hoped, Mr. President for bestow a gift upon you, in return for your gracious handling of relations between our nations." |

President Mellor smiled broadly and suppressed the urge to bow in gratitude. "Thank you very much for your kindness. It's a pleasure to meet all of you. And thank you for the gift. The joy of service is its own reward, but I accept your very gracious offering." John's gaze turned to the long box, his thoughts now focused on imagining what could be inside. |

the Queen moved forward, as her Husband opened the Box and held it out for her. Inside, lay a long, gold filigree encrusted officers sword, with a large medal laying next to it. The Latin writing around the medal said, "He Who Serves, Protects." The Motto of the Order of St. Stephen, the highest honour within the Kingdom of Franconia. The queen grasped the sword gently. "Mr. President, if you would please kneel." |

President Mellor knelt almost immediately. His mouth moved, but no words came out; he was equal parts surprised and excited. John quietly thought to himself that while he serves the people of Killadonia and the region without the expectation of reward, a reward of this magnitude truly is humbling and flattering. |

The Queen moved slowly, sword in hand, as she slowly tapped each of the Presidents shoulders twice. The gilded sword made a slight rapping sound, but there was no reaction from the assembled crowd. The Queen smiled. "Rise, Mr. President. I hereby bestow upon you the title of Knight Companion of the Order of St.Stephen." Prince John Charles moved forward with the medal, and pinned in on his chest. "Congratulations," the old man said with a slight smile. |
