Day 26
"Good evening everyone, I'm Brenden Carter, Host of the FBC's Power and Politics. Tonight, and for the next 26 Days of Campaigning, we will bring you nothing but the best, and the boldest in coverage. This election, this parliament, is set to be a whopper. Now, let's go over recent events."

"As the first step in implementing their austerity package, the Conservative Government of Michael Warren presented this years Budget to Parliament. However, lacking a majority in the House, the Government was defeated, with both Labour and the Socialist Action Party voting down the bill. With budgets generally considered a confidence issue, the 2 year old Warren Government fell, just 9 months short of the term length of the previous Tory administration."

"Current polls show an intensely tight race, with Labour, and their leader, Margaret Legault holding a slight effective of just 4 points, while the Tories take up the rear. The newly formed Liberal National Party is in third place, and seems to be sapping some strength from the Conservatives. Both the Social Action Party and the Option Nationale are low in the polls, and the electoral landscape is still murky. Here is a full overview of the current polls."

Labour- 36%
Conservatives- 32%
Liberal National- 19%
Social Action- 8%
Option Nationale- 5%

"And now, on the first day of The Campaign, we will continue our coverage, of the Leaders and their Party, the voters, and the choice you must make."

Day 19
"One day after the bombastic reports that forced Michael Warren to resign as Prime Minister and Conservative Party Leader, the Tories are back on the hastings. A credit to the early leadership of Mr. Baldwin, who, afters suffering a debilitating blow to the party, has been able to secure most loose ends. As a senior party official called it, Mr. Baldwin is battering down the hatches and putting on his suit of Armour. And let me tell you, he is going to need it. Recent polls show Labour maintaining a 15 point lead over the Conservatives, with the Liberal National Party gaining ground on many centrist voters."

"Mr. Baldwin was in the Capital today, working with Foreign Secretary Audrey MacMillan, on the Tories foreign electoral policy. Later in the Day, he promised to look into the formation of a Regional Military, And Economic alliance, a more formal arrangements than the G4. Baldwin, an expert on diplomacy and geopolitics, that in the area of Foreign Affairs, only the Tories can provide effective, national, leadership."

"Labour Leader Margaret Legault was in Montroyal once again today, and reacted to Baldwins statements at a press conference. While she acknowledged that regional dialogue was important, she stressed that a military organization should not be necessary, with the lack of conflict world wide. She attacked the Conservatives record in the field of Foreign Affairs, saying that Mr. Warrens 2 year tenure was that of failure on the world stage, and of unmitigated disaster at home."

Quote:

"We all know that our standing, our international standing, was hurt by the more timid Foreign Policy of Mr. Warren. Under his watch, very little ever happened with regard to the Foreign Office, and he met with Regional leaders very infrequently. A Labour government is the only government that can retake our place on the world stage as a leader, and a peacekeeper." - Margaret Legault

"Liberal National Party Leader Bill Blake, and Brent Smallwood, leader of your he SAA, we're both internal heir home ridings, concentrating on national strategy, and meeting with their parties national executive."

Day 18
"A comprehensive review of all polling and policies has brought back some interesting results. Hi, I'm Brenden Carter, and your watching 26 Days of Decision. The Imperial Institute polled 5,000 Franconian from all across the country, on topics like leadership and the economy. The numbers are fascinating. We interviewed Marion Kalbach, Vice President of Research at the Imperial Institute, on the results and the topics."

"The First question put forward to the people was on the economy, asking which party leader would be best suited to handling the economy. Conservative Leader Brian Baldwin came out on top with 43% of people saying he showed the best record on the economy and economic stewardship. Labour Leader Margaret Legault polled 32% of people saying the same of her."

Quote:

MK: "It is an interesting result, though not unsurprising. The Labour Party has never held Government so there is an active apprehension about how they could handle the economy. The Tories on the other hand, have, over the past two years, been cutting the deficit, and controlling spending."

"On the flip side however, more people, 39% say that Mrs. Legault is in a better place when running the public services, such as health and education. Mr. Blake comes second in that poll with 27%, while Mr. Baldwin nips at his heels with 26%."

Quote:

MK: I'm not surprised that Legault takes the lead on healthcare, but the fact that Blake beats out Baldwin is very interesting. Earlier onthe campaign, Mr. Blake promised large spending cuts to services, in order to slay the deficit. I think this is more about Mr. Baldwin not yet being a household name than him being bad at running the government services. After all, he was Home Secretary in the last government, and is far more moderate than Mr. Warren ever was."

"The last National opinion polls put The Tories behind, but hard campaigning of new Leader Brian Baldwin may just put some fight back in the race. With the debate 3 days away, the Conservatives are looking to land a knockout blow that an reinstate their party as the front runners and embarrassing the Labour Party."

Day 17
"The Conservative Party has made another policy Announcement, just 2 days ahead of the debate. The Prime Minister promised that, if the Conservatives are given government once again, Mr. Baldwin would enter into negotiations with the Covourg family to once again return to our nation's throne. This announcement was greeted positively by most of the populace, despite outrage among members of the deeply republican Socialist Action Alliance. The Covourg family had no comment on the matter, saying that they would see how the country voted."

"Labour Leader Margaret Legault was in Montroyal, at a National Unity Rally. She was joined by the Leader of the Opposition in the Veranian provincial legislature, Nicolas Bertier. Bertier endorsed Legault, vouching for her integrity and competency. Legault was also endorsed by the Montroyal Gazette, a leading Veranian newspaper."

"Bill Blake entered a new stage of his campaign, doing 3 interviews with the three major broadcast sorporations. In an attempt mirroring Ms. Legault, Blake was endorsed by Premier Paul Martin of Greater Franconia. Mr. Blake has begun to run his advertisements, and his campaign is noted for its slick messaging style."

"A new poll from the Imperial Institute shows the party standings just 2 days before the single, national debate."

Labour- 37% (-2)
Conservatives- 28% (+2)
Liberal Nationale- 19% (-3)
SAA- 5% (=)
Option National- 3% (+1)
Undecided- 8% (+1)

Day 16: Debate Predictions
"With the one, and only, debate of this campaign tomorrow, we have assembled a special panel to discuss our predictions, the outcomes, and what it means for the Parties involved. So here are Diane Phillips, Liza Beaulieu and Nick Sladieski. Good to see all of you, so Nick, what's your prediction for the debate?"

"Well Brenden its gonna be fascinating. Most of the leaders began their debate prep months ahead of the election. Now that's a good thing for Mr. Baldwin, its terrible for the Opposition. Mrs. Legault and the others all expected to face Michael Warren across the table. Now, Mr. Warren, in all due respect, was not a very good debater, he was too serious and too demure. Mr. Baldwin is younger, more attractive, and far more passionate an orator. If he can make a good impression, he might be able to turn this around for the Tories."

"I'm not so sure, I honestly think the Conservatives are finished. Even if Mr. Baldwin can pull a knockout punch in this debate, the Social Democrats are up by 15 points. No debate can change a lead like that. We all know what party, I favour but I am a realist. Our leader failed us a few days ago. We need time to regroup and rethink
."

"I don't think the Prime Minister will thank you for saying that Diane. I'm more leaning toward Nicks point. In politics, nothing is certain, and nothing is not lost. If the Conservatives can pull off an amazing debate performance, and shift the issues onto the economy, then we might have another Tory government on our hands."

Day 15: Debate Review
"Last night, the Leaders of the five major parties got together, in one room, for the first time since Parliament closed. Moderated by ypurs truly, the debate was a fiery exchange, full of finger pointing, head shaking, and Arm waving. The debate is critical of the overall tone of the campaign, as the fragile Social Democrat Lead was in threat from the variable of the night, the new Tory contender, Brian Baldwin."

"The worst outcome of the debate for the Social Democrats would have been a stellar performance from the Prime Minister, who's besieged party is low in the polls. And while his performance was far from groundbreaking, he held his own, and may have just been able to trunk the campaign around."

"In his opening statement, the Prime Minister said that only a Tory government can be trusted with the economy, with the budget, and ensuring a fiscally responsible government. He also offered a position on the much talked about Regional Currency, saying while the brainstorming and discussion on such a project would be welcome, a Conservative Government would be cautious in entering such an economic union."

"Social Democratic Leader Margaret Legault also had a good performance, targeting the Conservatives for the most part, while also sniping shots at the Greens and Liberal Nationals. She said that another Conservative government would be a nightmare for the public service. Especially vibrant and fiesty, Mrs. Legault treaded the line between passion and rage. When the issue of the Regional Currency appeared, she pounced on the issue, exclaiming her support for the project, and says a SDP government would be more than willing to join the program. This stance was heavily attacked by the Prime Minister and Option Nationale Leader, Helens Bouchard."

"Liberal National Leader Bill Blake clawed back some of his language on the issue of budget cuts and austerity, claiming a more balanced approach, in contradiction to his parties earlier platform. Situated in between the Leader of the Opposition and the Prime Minister, Mr. Blake attempted to be seen as the compromise candidate."

"The other two party leaders, Mr. Smallwood, and Mrs. Bouchard were active in many discussions, but after debate polls showed that their narrow base of support in the general public made it difficult for them to branch outwards."

"And as usual, on the FBC'S, every debate we give you one liners that will likely be a big soundbites for the remaining campaign. It is from the Prime Minister,.on his economic record."
Quote:

"A Conservative Government, a Baldwin Administration, will clean up government, and replace the wasteful policies of the Social Democrats predecessors, the Liberals and NDP, with economic responsibility and common sense regulations. Voting for an SDO government, inviting for uncertainty.

Day 14
"One day after, and the polls are already out. The Imperial Institute surveyed a select group of undecided voters to watchthe debate, and report what they felt. The results, are interesting."

"On who won the debate, 39% of people claim Prime Minister Baldwin was the man to come out on top. 31% of people disagree, saying the Legault was the most effective speaker."

"On who seemed the most professional and most Prime Ministerial, Mr. Baldwin won with 47% viewing him in this light, with 29% for Mrs. Legault. Legaults fiery, some would say scrappy, style may have turned off some voters."

"As to who seemed more personable, and the more enjoyable a personality, Mfs. Legault won by a large margin, 53%. Her down to earth rhetoric may have played a role in this."

"Overall polls were also released, a do or die moment for the Conservatives. If they drop any more in the polls, after a fairly strong debate performance such as Mr. Baldwins last night, then it would have effectively been the end."

"That was jot the case however, as polls revealed the Conservatives had gained, mostly from the Liberal National Party."

Social Democratic Party- 34% (-3)
Conservative Party- 30% (+2)
Liberal National Party- 15% (-4)
Greens- 7% (=)
Option Nationale- 4% (+1)
Undecided- 10% (+2)

"After losing a leader, and a poor early start to the campaign, the Tories may have narrowed things down. The Social Democrats have fallen from a high of 39% support, and while they still hold a tentative lead, it is fragile. If Mr. Baldwin can do something extraordinary in the next two weeks, he might have himself a victory, or even, a majority."

Day 12
"As the Parties are left in the doldrums of public interest after the debate, most of the leaders have been fairly quiet, using the time they bought on television two nights ago to cover them and prepare for an new stage of the campaign. Mr. Baldwins tight victory over the others has given the Conservative campaign a new wind, as the SDP polling shows that if the election serene held tomorrow, the Social Democrats would only hold a small minority of seats in the House, not enough to form any kind of stable government."

"Brian Baldwin was in Provencher today, meeting with the Verana campaign chair, Andre LeSage. Mr. LeSage, considered a Tory guru in Verana, is one of the Conservatives few francophone MPs. Once a PC Leadership hopeful, Mr. LeSage Served in the cabinets of Michael Warren, and we appointed as his provincial campaign head in Verana."

"Margaret Legault visited Manning Dam, and industrial Site in Northern Franconia, an unfinished project that would supply much of the Provinces with hydro power. However, Mrs. Legault debate comment, that and SDP government would not be afraid to join a regional currency took center stage, and the press hounded her with questions on how this would effect the economy and the relationship between the nations, and their banks. Mrs. Legault deflected the questions, saying that she was open to any suggestions."

"Liberal Leader Bill Blake laid low today, after a weaker than expected debate performance, the LNP has fallen down to 15% support, from their high of 21%. However, this still puts them in a powerful position, for if the Parliament lacks a majority party, the LNP will hold the balance of power, and possibly, if they can make an agreement with another party, possibly, a coalition."

Day 11
"A new method of politicking today, as the Conservative Party apparently changed its approach, coming at the people in a far more humble way."

"The Tory leader, Brian Baldwin, did a walk about of several important, vote rich districts in the Capital today, with his staff tagging along. But also with them, a small soap box, a relic from Mr. Baldwins days as a city Councillor. Moving the mobile platform, and bearing a mega phone, the Prime Minister stood at impromptu rallies, giving speeches to the crowds, and taking questions directly from voters. The sessions were full of possibel soundbites, and seems to be the first attempt to remake the campaign, changing it from the large, industrial Warren voter complex, to the down tow earth, Baldwin style of politics."

"This comes on a day when most of the other leaders are at home, the third day after the debate is seen as the final day to plan the last push, and few other leaders were even seen in public. Margaret Legault was at SDP National headquarters, but no doubt took stock of this new development."

Day 10
"The New conflict between Cesmolia and Vatikiria has taken over the direction of the campaign. Some of us may yet remember the painful memories of the Vatikiria war, pursued by the Xavien Administration. The scars of that war Linger on, both as painful reminders of our failings and our Governments poor judgement."

"Brian Baldwin was very clear today, condemning the Cesmolians for the ir illegal seizures of Vatikirian cargo. However, he did say, that should the Cesmolians like to submit their evidence to the international community, he would believe that a thorough and intensive investigation, followed by mediation between to two sides could create peace. Despite these words, Mr. Baldwin was also very insistent that should a conflict arise, and because of which, Franconian sitizens were put at risk, he would act., with force if necessary."

"Margaret Legault too commented on the issue, calling the situation a miscommunication and telling media that an SDP government would be a force for good on the world stage, She ruled out any form of military involvement in either country, saying the old days of Palmerston style gun boat diplomacy was dead. With the general lull after the debate nearly over, It is time to see if the SDP can take the stage from the resurgent Tories."

"Liberal Leader Bill Blake was actually at sea today, realizing his military platform. When asked about the Crisis, he backed Mr. Baldwins stubborn Defence of the ountry, while also understanding the need for negotiations."

Days 9-1
In the final stretch of the campaign, every national leader has been hitting the road, and visiting every major going block an especially interested group. Be it big business, ethnic minorities, or even small slices of the electorate, such as certain sports fans, have been courted. Yet, over the past days, international conflict has been taking centre stage. With the Cesmolian Crisis continues and talks of a regional currency begin to formulate, the international standings of each leader have taken the lead over their domestic views on how voters themselves look at the Candidates."

"A new study by the Imperial institute shows that, on the world stage, Mr. Baldwin has a lead on being a stronger leader, and standing up for Franconia to other nations."

"One big turning point yesterday, was the Conservatives National Convention. Here, Mr. Baldwin finally made his mark, making a thundering speech to the party faithful, and indeed, to the nation."

"In his half an hour speech, Mr. Baldwin spoke on both the Cesmolian Crisis and the Regional currency. With both being decisive issues, it seems that the entire nation has taken a side on both of these issues."

"The Conservatives have repeatedly stated that they would have to study and consider the facts about a Regional Currency, but many of their MPs, and indeed their supporters seem to be far more skeptical of such agreement than their SDP or Liberal opposites."

"Margaret Legault herself has publicly supported the idea of a currency for the region, saying an SDP government would not simply support a plan but also assist innits development. She too has called upon the people of Vatikiria and Cesmolia to resolve the issue peacefully, saying that a region wide, humanitarian initiative must be organized in the case of war. With the election just one day away, tensions are high.
