Breaking News: This morning, approximately 7:20 AM, An international flight left from Egyptos, heading to Novo Canuckia. Air routes normally skirt about the extremely xenophobic Dictatorship of Kaskadistan, however, an error when fueling resulted in the plane not having enough to go south and avoid the heavily defended border, forcing the pilot to look for a more direct route. Egyptosian representatives of the airline state that the plane's GPS cut out about halfway through the Sezari Desert, in the south of Kaskadistan. This means either a highly unlikely malfunction or a crash, and since the plane did not land in Canuckia, one can only assume it either crashed in Kaskadistan, which is again, unlikely as the pilot was a veteran of over three hundred flights, or it was shot down. Of the three hundred passengers aboard, there were one hundred Egyptosians, one hundred fifty-four Canuckians, six Killadonians, one Franconian, and thrity-nine Weircongolese (?) passengers. Gunter Waffenburg, Head of Foreign Relations within Kaskadistan, vehemently denies the act, going so far as to say "There was no plane" and "The border guards report nothing." The press was quickly ushered out by armed guards. We await reaction from the Region's powers. |

Premier Kailen Guillory held a press conference after hearing of the airline tragedy, and released the following statement.
When the Premier got back to his office he made a conference call to Prime Minister Rahman Hany and the Prime Minister of Novo Canuckia. "Mr. Prime Ministers, I am sorry for the losses of your citizens. I am calling to inform you that's government will gladly provide any assistance that may be needed to both of your nations." |

In Ashkera, the government-sponsored news show Briefing did a segment of news about the event, going over the available information. As the incident did not involve any Ashkerans (or anyone even on their way to Ashkera), the government issued no public statement about the issue. More quietly, diplomatic representatives to Kaskadistan urged the regime to be less trigger-happy against civilian airliners in the future. |
