The Killadonian Presidential Election is now underway. Here are the candidates for their respective parties:

Social Progressive Party

Vice President Amir Abin

Ideology: Left with some far-left tendencies
Priorities: Improving the national public transit system, adding additional support to the tourism industry, and increasing income equality throughout the country.

Amir Abin has enjoyed tremendous popularity as the Vice President under Edith Hale for the last few years. Young and charismatic, he is now working to combat the notion that he lacks substantive stances on the issues. He has identified the three issues above as the cornerstones for his domestic policy, which he will be describing in depth later in the campaign.

Senator Wendy Hillworth

Ideology: Far-left with some left tendencies
Priorities: Comprehensive hate speech legislation, increasing social/cultural spending

Representing the new leadership of the Social Progressive Party, Senator Hillworth is challenging Vice President Abin for the Social Progressive party nomination. Hillworth believes that Abin does not represent the new direction of the party and thus will not put forth worthwhile legislation if elected. Hillworth's main domestic policy proposal is the introduction of new hate speech legislation, which would criminalize words that could be construed as offensive.

Liberal Party

Senator Maria Calvet

Ideology: Centrist with some center-left tendencies
Priorities: Renewed diplomatic ties with the region, economic reforms, law enforcement restructuring

With the shift of the Social Progressive Party to a far-left party, Maria Calvet and other members of Congress have formed a new party that looks to appeal to the centrist and left-leaning centrist voters in Killadonia. The daughter of Franconian immigrants, Calvet's central campaign promise will be an effort to establish and maintain closer diplomatic, economic, and military ties to the region.

Green Party

Congresswoman River Holbrook

Ideology: Far-left with some left tendencies
Priorities: Environment, increased development of alternative energy production

Running in what will be her fifth consecutive election, River Holbrook has seen her party's popularity and presence in Congress increase over the last four years. She is hoping that will translate to a strong showing in the presidential race. Her central campaign pledge is to protect the environment and to move Killadonia away from non-renewable energy sources altogether.

Eternal Peace Party

Congressman Julius Washington

Ideology: Far-left
Priorities: Outright ban of guns from the nation, reduction of uniformed law enforcement

Though the Eternal Peace Party membership has shrunk over the years, Julius Washington has been a rising star in both Congress and his own party's leadership. He looks to take advantage of the split in the Social Progressive Party by reaffirming Killadonia's commitment to pacifism.

Killadonian Defense Party

Mr. Bertram Colson
Picture

Ideology: Right with some center-right tendencies
Priorities: Establishment of a standing military, "gunboat diplomacy", privatization of the economy, reform of the national budget

Despite its ups and downs, the Killadonian Defense Party has always managed to maintain a presence in Killadonian politics. Bertram Colson's central idea is to create a standing army, which would protect Killadonian interests both abroad and in country. By introducing a military and privatizing the economy, Colson would look to combine the formidable diplomatic strength of the State Department with the strength to project their influence with military strength.

There are two series of election guides for expatriates produced by the government of Ashkera. The first is produced the Cooperative Technocratic State's Section 5 (Diplomatic Services), and reflects the priorities of the national government. The second is produced by the Royal News Service, which is similar to the BBC and is more independent.

The RNS's recommendations will not be discussed.

The following is the ranking suggested by CTSA-5 in public, combined with information obtained by Killadonian intelligence services.

1. Senator Maria Calvet (Liberal Party)
The Ashkeran government generally prefers radically centrist policies, and when those aren't available, centrist or centre-left policies. Promises of increased economic ties with the region bode well for exports from the GX nations, which are essential for everything from raising the standard of living, to affording more military equipment for a potential war with Collovia. Law enforcement reforms bring the potential for sales of Ashkeran equipment (such as the Stinger LTL PDS and complete body camera and evidence management systems commonly sold to GX nations). Economic reforms increase the potential for exports.

2. Vice President Amir Abin
Further increasing income equality within Killadonia is slightly contrary to the Technocracy's economic goals, but not a deal-breaker. Improvements to public transit mark a potential market for Ashkeran manufacturers, and Killadonia is a major location for Ashkeran tourists. Overall considered predictable, "don't rock the boat" choice, which means lower expenditures on feeding internal prediction markets, and a lower predicted chance of global nuclear war. (Killadonian intelligence services were unable to determine just how much lower the projected risk is.)

3. Congresswoman River Holbrook
The government's interest in this woman is highly unorthodox, since she is almost guaranteed to lower Killdonia's total economic output, and thus GX exports. On the other hand, reducing global CO2 output is a major goal within the Technocracy - one they are willing to kill people to achieve, as Killadonian agents discovered while monitoring what turned out to be an intelligence operation sabotaging USE oil companies, their PR groups, and PACs. SANE (Star Ashkera Nuclear Energy) Group hopes that legislation can be finagled to qualify fission power as a form of "green" or "renewable" energy - sales would help to recoup research investments in the STAR-4 and STAR-5 series reactors.

Internal projections within Ashkera suggest the resulting economic slowdown from Holbrook's policies may contribute indirectly to some number of deaths, though estimates vary significantly. All of these estimates are lower than the weighted probability death estimate of "Scenario K-Theta," which appears to be some kind of global war in the 2040s or 2050s, though agents weren't able to obtain more data. [1]

4. Senator Wendy Hillworth
Some factions within the government believe that the hate speech legislation can be exploited to undermine rival ideological groups. Other factions believe that it will effectively empower them by providing a level of cover that prevents criticism. Both factions intend to exploit them through the use of cleverly-placed social operatives in order to apply selective pressure against groups the Technocracy doesn't like.

5. Congressman Julius Washington
Gun exports to Killadonia are already low, and this guy keeps Killadonia from engaging in any military interventions which might compromise Ashkera's interests. However, he is generally considered incompetent within the Ashkeran government, and is expected to unintentionally lower GX exports and possibly damage the global economy, putting increased strain on already tense situations in developing nations.

6. Mr. Bertram Colson
The economic prospects of an exciting and massive new gun market are outweighed by the increased risk of a standing Killadonian military and associated increase in diplomatic power, along with increased risk of various threat scenarios involving global war. The great irony is that a number of Mr. Colson's policies would be favored if Killadonia were a GX nation. He is considered to be of middling competence.

Each candidate was presented with the question "What would you do in your first 100 days in office?" Here are their answers:

Vice President Abin

If elected, I intend on continuing the policies of President Hale and her predecessors. This country has flourished under the leadership of the Social Progressive Party and I would like to be the next section of this unbroken line.

My first priority will be the continued construction of our public transit. Let's connect all of Killadonia and make affordable for the average family to travel anywhere in country. From there, we will make sure that our beloved public health care system remains properly funded. This is only the beginning for the Social Progressive Party.

Senator Hillsworth

On my first day in office, I would sign an executive order to regulate the internet. Freedom of speech is one of our constitutional rights, but we need to place limits on what miscreants can say under the cloak of anonymity. Let's remove that cloak and make people responsible for what they say.

Once we've effectively dealt with that issue, I would drastically increase spending on social and cultural education. We need to combat racial and cultural privilege wherever it rises.

Senator Calvet

My first priority if I am elected would be to appoint a strong Secretary of State. Killadonia is a regional power from a diplomatic standpoint, but I think we can do better. We must strengthen our bonds with our neighbors and make allies out of our enemies.

Domestically, I believe that the Social Progressive Party has changed and not for the better. Their policies are geared towards benefitting the elite few first and foremost. Let's go through our domestic policies line by line and determine which policies we should keep and which policies should be cut. Our government should serve the people, not the other way around.

Congresswoman Holbrook

My administration's first act will be to introduce sweeping legislation to protect our environment. Our scientists and engineers will work towards making our country free of fossil fuels or nuclear energy; all of our needs will be met by renewable energy.

I could go on, but I want my actions to speak loud for me. Elect me as our next President and I will make our dream come true.

Congressman Washington

My message is clear: if elected, I will work tirelessly to remove guns from our streets. We must renew our commitment to pacifism and rid ourselves of these tools of murder. We must also reduce the number of uniformed police officers and replace them with civilian organizations. Who do you think cares more about your neighborhood: cops that don't live there or you and your neighbors?

Mr. Colson

After I am elected, my first act will be to appoint Alex Wethers as Secretary of Defense and we will work together to build a military worthy of this great nation. While we have many allies, we also have many enemies who are just waiting for the opportunity to invade and destroy us. It is our duty as Killadonians to protect this country of ours by any means necessary.

Once we build a military, my next step would be start privatizing our economy. We have move away with inefficient government control and put the power in the people's hands.
