After half a year of construction, the MAV had been completed, and both the SLS and Orion were checked and ready for flight. Because of the construction being completed in the winter, the launch couldn't take place until March 1st of the new year, but this was a perfect opportunity for training to be continued for the crew and backup crews. Until then, ANASA would place the inflatable habitat and launch it on a separate, smaller rocket sometime in January. This would put less stress on the crew, seeing as they now wouldn't have to haul the hab down to the Moon with them, instead it would already be on the Moon ready for inflation.

Orion III
Kennedy Space Center

An order was given by the President himself to launch the Orion III on the same day as the state of the union address. This rushed ANASA as the order was given on the day after Christmas and severely put the workers behind, but they persevered through it and work directly up the launch day. The United States of Astoria was about to follow up in it's parents footsteps, and make it's mark on history by landing on the Moon.

As the hours turned into minutes, which turned into seconds, Captain Glen Carlson was more anxious about this launch than his last launch in which he orbited the moon 22 years ago. As the countdown hit :59 seconds, all the Astronauts joined hands and began to pray. "Dear God, please get us off this rock safely. God I pray that this rust bucket made by degenerate 20 year old liberals fresh out of college still holds up, and most importantly, I pray you get us home safely. In Jesus's name I pray, Amen."

5...4...3...2...1...

Immediately there was a large boom which carried itself across the entire launch facility. The rocket began to shake violently, as this happened everyone's hearts sank, as the thought of the last year of their lives being in vein, and the life of the Astronauts lives being on the line. But suddenly, the rocket lifted into the air, gracefully, at a speed the likes of which have never been reached.

"We have liftoff!" The announcer exclaimed into the microphone.

As the rocket began it's trek into space, the whole crowd of 12,000 cheered and shouted. Man would step foot on the moon in only a few days.

Orion III
Low Earth Orbit

About 8 minutes after liftoff, the Orion III and it's crew had successfully reached low earth orbit. After rocket booster separation, it was time for a space walk to make sure no damage had been done to the LAV and the Multi-purpose crew vehicle.

The spacewalk, performed by Astronaut Howard Garcia, showed no damage. With all systems running optimally, and no visible damage seen on the spacecraft, it was time for a transition into trans-lunar trajectory. The journey to the moon would take no more than 3 days.
