Randy Wolf and the Padres have reached terms to a 1year deal.
Thank God. Hopefully, that means they don't come after Prior now as was reported.
Here's the report on http://mlb-rumors.blogspot.com/

Padres GM Kevin Towers has confirmed that the Padres are very interested in trading for Mark Prior. Prior is neighbors with Kevin Towers and are good friends. Not only that, but Prior has made it known that he would like to pitch for the Padres. The Cubs have until Dec. 12 to offer him a contract but might look to trade him at the Winter Meetings. The Cubs are very intrigued by the prospects they could acquire in return for Prior, and have already started looking. The Padres hope Prior would be more agreeable in contract negotiations because he is a native of the San Diego area, and because he has only pitched in 57 games over the past four seasons. The Cubs inquired about second baseman Rayner Contreras, pitcher Wade Leblanc, and left fielder Chad Huffman, all solid prospects with good upside. They will probably bring back Barrett next week as well look for a new outfielder. I think the Cubs have had enough of Prior. They have put so much time and effort into him and nothing has come out of it. They have pitching now and do not need him, unless they wanted another candidate for closer. Prior isn't even expected back until June, if then.

Yeah, I agree with him that the Cubs Front Office has had enough of Prior. They've put so much time and effort into getting him to come back, and now he wants to play for another team.
Everyone knew he was jerk from the beginning when he treated the Twins like shit at the Draft. He's also blown a couple autograph sesssions he was supposed to attend. I've never cared for him as a person, but I would've liked to seen him come back. He was ridiculous in 2003. Might've won the Cy Young (in his 1st full year) had he not missed 6 weeks on the Disabled List. 2004 was when his shoulder problem started and they didn't figure out what was wrong with it until his 2007 arthroscopic surgery.

Kaz Matsui is now an Astro 3years 16.5mil. Hate the contract, hate his away stats, but I do like the fact that he can steal bases.

I'm going to post a bunch of stuff off the baseball forum I'm a member of:

For those teams that lose out on Santana, there still is no shortage of attractive pitchers available on the trade market.
Perhaps the best of those is left-hander Erik Bedard of the Baltimore Orioles, who is definitely available now that, according to league sources, he has informed the team he has no interest in signing an extension to stay in Baltimore beyond 2009, when he hits free agency.

The Astros and Giants are among the teams that have expressed interest in Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada, sources have told SI.com.
The Orioles are believed to be interested in outfielder Michael Bourn (acquired from the Phillies in the Brad Lidge deal), shortstop Adam Everett and other Astros prospects.

Yesterday, indications surfaced that the Sox have also had discussions with the Milwaukee Brewers regarding Ben Sheets. Sheets, 29, was 12-5 with a 3.82 ERA for the Brewers last year and has won in double figures in six of his seven seasons in the big leagues, but due to injuries hasn’t made more than 24 starts in any of the last three seasons.

Yankees vice president Hank Steinbrenner confirmed that he plans to pull his team's offer for Johan Santana on Monday.
Just when it looked like the Yankees might have gotten him muzzled. "I think our offer is the best offer," Steinbrenner said. "We have the best young pitchers in the game, even better than Boston." The Yankees are believed to be offering Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and a prospect for Santana. Steinbrenner indicated that the third player isn't what's holding up the deal. "That's erroneous," he said. "I don't think that will be the sticking point."Dec. 2 - 9:14 pm et

The Padres, moving toward a watershed moment in franchise history, have made significant progress toward signing right-hander Jake Peavy to a three-year contract extension.
"We're moving closer," Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, told FOXSports.com. The deal, which would lock up Peavy through 2012, will average between $17 million and $17.5 million per season, according to a major-league source. It also could include a club option for a fourth year.

The A's are thought to be seeking from the Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury -- who's currently the sticking point in Boston's bid for Santana -- plus either of two top young pitchers, Clay Buchholz and Jon Lester.
The A's also will consider offers for their other top pitchers, including Joe Blanton and Rich Harden.
Oakland is believed to have its sights on one or more of the Yankees' three top young pitchers -- Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy.

By Jon Heyman, SI.com
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Angels' big offer for young hitting star Miguel Cabrera included top young hitter Howie Kendrick, young catcher Jeff Mathis, one of two coveted young pitchers -- Nick Adenhart or Ervin Santana -- plus an additional pitcher prospect described as a "mid-level'' talent, SI.com has learned.
The Angels thought that was the winning bid several days ago. But when Florida came back to the Angels and demanded that both Adenhart and Santana be included with Kendrick and Mathis, the deal fell apart. The Angels were unhappy the Marlins balked and a rejuvenation of the trade probably would require Florida coming back and accepting Los Angeles' original proposal.
The specific players hadn't been identified previously. But Angels owner Arte Moreno let his frustration out when he told the Los Angeles media a few days ago, "They came back and asked for more. They're doing it to everybody.''
It is believed the Marlins' idea to put both Adenhart and Santana into the deal came from club owner Jeffrey Loria and club president David Samson after the Marlins' baseball people seemed amenable to the trade.
Along with the Angels, the Dodgers, Giants and White Sox are believed to be the most active pursuers of Cabrera, with the Rangers, Indians and Mets also inquiring. The Angels have been seen as the frontrunner for Cabrera since they have a good fit with Florida, which seeks a top young hitter, a catcher, a center fielder and pitching in return. The Angels also have a surplus of outfielders after signing Torii Hunter to a five-year, $90-million free agent contract.
Other teams have expressed similar frustration with the Marlins. While some are suggesting now that Florida is "just fishing,'' most believe Cabrera still will be traded.
Cabrera, who hit .320 with 34 homers and 119 RBIs, made $7 million in 2007 after an arbitration victory in 2007 and is expected to receive $11-12 million this year through arbitration.

Thank god for the Marlins being greedy. It would be dumb enough to give up both Kendrick and Mathis in any deal for Cabrera. And they wanted Adenhart and Santana to go with it? Arte better just stop negotiating with them already.

I really hope the white sox don't go for Cabrera. It would mean unloading the few talent we have in the minors, along with the few young talent we have on the team now. Screw that. Keep Fields, Danks, Gio Gonzalaez, De Lo Santos, Sweeney, and whoever else and try to win in 2 years.

TRADE ALERT
White Sox Get: OF Carlos Quinten
Diamondbacks Get: Minor League 1B Chris Carter
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnered=rss_mlb
I like this trade. We get a good, young outfielder, and someone who can actually get on base. Chris Carter is a big time masher, but we really dont need a 1B for a few years, and a mashing 1B are a dime a dozen. Good trade for the Sox here, not sure how it looks to D-Back fans, im sure Chris and NGO can give some feedback on this as well.
